Naughtons - Kilkee

The restaurant has a charming interior and the food is delicious, but our experience was tarnished from the moment we arrived. Despite having made a reservation for a group of 12, we were initially seated in a side area because one table was not ready. Once upstairs, we were seated together at one long table but were informed that we would be treated as two separate tables of 6 because they could not accommodate larger groups. Unfortunately, the first table received their food an hour before the rest of us, and one person was told their main dish was unavailable 75 minutes after ordering. Despite our concerns during the payment process, the manager failed to provide good customer service by dismissing our feedback instead of offering an apology. A mandatory 10% service charge for groups larger than 6 was added to the bill, even though we were initially told they only catered to smaller groups. Overall, we spent €700 and left feeling disappointed by the experience. However, one waitress, who appeared to be around 19 or 20 years old with blonde hair, stood out for her exceptional service and efforts to make up for the shortcomings of her colleagues. She was a bright spot in an otherwise flawed service.

The service was excellent and the outdoor dining space was nice. They even provided blankets if needed. The food was delicious, especially the fish. The batter was light and crispy. Overall, we couldn't find any faults with our experience.

So everything went swimming until we got the bill. we had 6 in the group, 3 adults and 3 children and it came to almost 150 drinks. my wife was not so hungry and had asked for a child's part. during the meal she asked for a piece of cheese to add to her burger. I thought how much we pay, I didn't think we were calculated extra for a piece of cheese, but low and see an extra 1.40 appeared on the bill for the cheese. I thought that was a bit much given how much we paid (and also 10% service fee on their bill). when I frightened him, the manager, a dame, had to be called, and she rationally declares that food costs money etc., etc. but when it was pointed out that 2 of us decided not to have a cheese on our burgers, it was really cranky and told the server to take it out of the bill while too foot away. I was expecting a lot better from someone who's busy with people every day. it was really a small thing, but she did it in a big thing, but with her logic, she owed us another 1.40 for not beeping on our burgers. Anyway, eating was decent despite their silly reaction.

This restaurant is a beloved local favorite with a delightful ambiance.

We are always looking forward to at least a few visits at naughton when we visit kilkee and they will never be disappointed. not only for the great food, but for the warm, helpful and craic of elaine, paddy and all the beautiful staff there. this year was not an exception. Thank you, young and we'll see you next time.
