The highlight was the Helena bar, where we had delicious Guinness for €4.50 and tasty seafood. We also went back for breakfast the next morning and were impressed with the food once again. A tip for those coming from Kenmare: follow the Twosist road instead of relying on GPS for the fastest route. We ended up on a narrow road that felt like a challenging landing of Apollo 13 on our way out.
Whenever I eat at this restaurant, I always question why I don't come here more often. The ambiance is delightful and the food is superb. You can savor gourmet meals at prices lower than takeout. Helen and her team are wonderful hosts. They serve the best fish and chips in Ireland, if not in the entire world.
Visiting from the UK to do the Wild Atlantic Way. You definitely want to divert to experience Helen’s Bar. We arrived early and the bar was alive with a great atmosphere. We had a wonderful warm welcome from the staff and of course Helen who engaged with us straight away and ensured we had a table as soon as possible. Couldn’t resist the mussels and open prawn sandwich both were delicious and such good value. It also provides an overnight stay in their car park, what’s not to like. We have been blown away by the hospitality we have received during our trip so far. We would certainly highly recommend Helen’s Bar for breakfast, lunch or dinner it’s fantastic. It s also a B&B. Thank you Helen and her hard working staff for making our evening very special. Andrea and Tony
We recently stopped at Helen's Bar for lunch and were extremely impressed. Everything we ordered was fabulous - fresh and deliciously presented. My partner had the fish and I had an open sandwich, both of which we shared. We couldn't resist the beautiful homemade desserts and left feeling fully satisfied for the day. The staff were welcoming, efficient, and friendly, particularly the young man who served us. The restaurant was spotless and service was quick. With the option to sit inside or outside on the pier, surrounded by breathtaking views, Helen's Bar is a peaceful and beautiful location. It's no wonder this place is so popular - we will definitely be returning when we are in the area again.
We spent two nights at Helen's Bar in Kilmackillogue on the Beara Peninsula, staying in a bed and breakfast. The first night, we had a lovely meal on the pier in a stunning location. Despite the weather forcing us indoors on the second night, the atmosphere inside was great. The seafood was plentiful and delicious. The accommodation was simple and affordable, with good breakfasts. My Australian friends declared this as the most memorable place they stayed during their 8-day tour of the south of Ireland.
