I haven't had the chance to try the new dishes yet, but I plan on doing so soon. The reviews for their previous fine dining experience may no longer reflect the current offerings.
This was my first time at the restaurant and it certainly won't be my last. The menu is small, as is typical of good restaurants, but the food is exceptional. The staff were also very friendly.
Booked by friends so we’d no idea what the restaurant would be like. Very quirky with seating up some very narrow stairs, the floor slopes to make it more interesting. The food and service could not be faulted. Food was cooked and presented really well. Really glad we tried it, I can highly recommend it as a great restaurant.
After reading reviews, we made a reservation at a restaurant in Hull's old town. The restaurant is located up a flight of stairs, and we felt sorry for the staff having to go up and down for each course. However, they didn't seem to mind. We ordered pea and ham soup and scallops for starters, both of which were overly salted. The scallops were well-cooked and the bread was very tasty. For our main courses, my husband had the slow-cooked pork belly, which he found to be lacking in taste and had no crackling. I had the lamb, which was decent except for the soft tuille instead of the expected crispiness. The vegetables were fine and the mashed potatoes were smooth and delicious. Overall, it was not a bad meal.
This was our first meal out since lockdown easing and we couldn’t have picked a better place! From the minute we arrived to when we left, we were made to feel welcome and relaxed by both the staff and the atmosphere of the place. The food here is absolutely first class. Our scallops to start were delicious- simple presentation, amazing flavours and excellent quality- which we soon came to realise would be the theme of the evening. My husband went for the belly of pork, which we had read some very positive reviews about, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! My Wagyu hanger steak, with chorizo mash and asparagus was cooked to perfection and the flavours in everything were amazing. Dessert was, without exaggeration , the best I’ve ever had, a beautiful orange chocolate fondant that was light and delicious with just a light touch of a mint creme Anglaise and orange pieces around it. The Old House is an absolute must if you’re looking for a special meal in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The young ladies who served us were friendly, attentive and very hard working during what was a very busy service. A real credit to the place. We will most certainly be back at The Old House as soon as we can and would definitely recommend it to anyone. First class all round!
