Having walked here numerous times for drinks in the sunshine we decided to call for lunch. Mentioned to the barmaid it was disappointing and not as sunny as planned to which she replied I'm glad and I hope its crap all weekend then I can finish early!!!!! We ordered drinks and asked if we could have a tab with a view to ordering food. She said no and by the way it's a limited menu so dont bother making your mind up from the menu board. We were given a limited menu and placed our order. She told me to get my own knives forks salt pepper vinegar and napkins whilst juggling two pints and had to navigate the stairs. When the steak and ale pie with peas and gravy came it was so disappointing. The half spoonful of peas was on top of a stale pie containing one piece of meat. Very very disappointing food and service
Excellent meal. We walked a mile to get here and it was well worth it. The fish and chips are huge and it was the best fish we’d had in a very long time. They also have a few gluten free items on the menu.
Really disappointed to write this review as this is somewhere we have been meaning to try for the last few months after seeing the amazing looking food on Facebook. The experience we had today was so poor, we chose to come today (Monday lunchtime around 12:30pm) for a nice lunch before my friend started work. We were the only ones in the pub and weren’t even greeted with a hello! After saying we wanted to eat we were given 2 ‘lazy Sunday’ menus, which was confusing as it was Monday the spring/summer menu is what drew us to go here (served 12-3 excluding sat sun) I asked for the Philly cheese steak sandwich and was abruptly told they weren’t doing that menu today. We decided on the ‘bun bun platter’ two burgers a side for £30. We ordered and paid for our food and drinks at the bar. About 10 minutes of waiting the girl from the bar came over and said unfortunately their meat fridge had been turned off therefore they would have to go out and get supplies which would mean a long wait! I just think this was a terrible excuse, how could this even happen? Just seemed like they didn’t want to start cooking just for us. We got our money back won’t be returning. We felt uncomfortable felt like we weren’t wanted there. I’m presuming it would be different all together if we went on a weekend, however this has now put us off.
8 of us went for a meal yesterday after looking at the pictures and reviews on here. We wanted to go for some nice food, play a game of pool. And somewhere the kids could also play. It looks so nice on the photos but it was really run down in person. The kids play area is not like the photos, the slides are missing, the climbing frame is broken and dangerous. The sand pit is filthy. The bar man was welcoming though and the food was really nice. Its situated in a lovely place with the canal boats. Its just a shame they haven't kept up with cleaning and maintenance of the site. But we do recommend the food. We had the ribs and salmon and the kids pizza meal.
