The standout dish was the Market Benny, featuring poached eggs served on a bed of hashbrowns, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, red peppers, and paprika. The eggs were delicious and the portion size was generous. It was a delicious combination of flavors.
The food is fresh, but the selection is limited. The restaurant is clean and the chairs are comfortable. They offer free refills of coffee, which is uncommon in most cities.
The Country Grocer, a local supermarket, has a fully equipped kitchen and a small seating area where customers can enjoy breakfast if their accommodation does not offer it. We stopped by before leaving Lake Cowichan for Ucluelet and tried a safe, blueberry scone, and a glazed cinnamon roll, all of which were delicious. The breakfast plates with the usual stackings of eggs, bacon, sausage, and fries looked very satisfying and complete.
We had a very tasty breakfast in county grocer, a corner of the main business house in lake cowichan. the cheese bacon scoone was very good. if they don't want to eat it with breakfast, they get one for the street. pancakes were fluffy and my friend enjoyed the egg benny. this is not a place to eat and run because the waiting time for the meal was quite long, but we were in no hurry. the sign said refills for coffee was .60 but the locals did not seem to pay for extra.
We didn't know what to expect, but I'm really glad we checked out the Country Market cafe. It's not just coffee; they have a menu of quick meals. But we came for coffee and left with a London Fog for me (made with care and...it was delicious) and an apple fritter for my Dad and a good, strong dark roast for hubby. We were all happy. Convenient location and easy parking.
