I rarely marked a place 5/5, but this one did it for me. I came here on a quiet Wednesday evening, the place has a wonderful exterior, very romantic. the interior is also romantic, its very picturesque but immaculate, clean, raw amazing and we had a nice greeting. My friend and I sat right at a nice table on the window, it had flowers and a candle and a small paper menu. The menu often changes so that it makes sense to have paper menus. I ordered a Malbec and my friend, the Pinot Noir, both were very nice. Your wine list is not huge and not many options for 'through the glass'. The appetizers all sound delicious, but we chose the bread. That was worth WELL. It was a whole wheat bread and then some sun-dried tomato focaccia, which was probably the most beautiful bread I ever had in my life, the herbal mixed butter composed it beautifully. My friend ordered the brat Rabbit Gnocchi and I ordered the duo of Westholme farm pig. I was really torn when everything on the menu was a standout for me. I will definitely try the Risotto again! I tasted my friends Gnocchi and it was absolutely to die. perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, the black garlic sauce really raised everything and I just wanted to go back for more (but it wasn't mine, darn! my pig was delicious, it was a hammock croquet that was bigger than I expected it was delicious and perfectly cooked. I didn't care about the lenses it was sitting on. The sauce and the puppets of the mustard have really added to the ham. The pig bell was melting in your mouth, amazing! Admittedly, pig bell is one of my favorite things in the world and the flavors of this type have not disappointed me. the prices were very fair for the amount of food and the obvious care and creativity placed in these dishes. I was so full, we decided not to have a dessert. The service was wonderful, our server was known, friendly and explains everything on the menu and dishes for us. This is a real jewel, perfect for a date night or romantic occasion. Will definitely go back!
Anyone who thrives in a Michelin star restaurant will appreciate Hudsons on First, the latest addition to the restaurant scene in Duncan. Opened in October, 2012, it has already shot the rows of restaurants in CowichanValley, attracting clients from far and wide, as their reputation for fine restaurants spreads. It definitely has the ante for other restorers in the area, and with good reason...
Brunch in Duncan. Great place for weekend brunch. Very close to the local peasant market
A little gem. Very artful, delicious, beautifully executed food by an inspired chef. The renovation to the two houses that make up the bar and restaurant are top notch no funky mismatched chairs and garage sale finds here. This is the best restaurant I visited on my recent trip to the Island and Salt Spring Island. My only comment is that the male server who spoke to us on the phone to make a reservation and then served us was nothing short of pompous and more than a bit passive aggressive. We were told there were no openings until 8:30 p.m., so did not reserve. changed our minds and called back at 7:50. We were told there were now no reservations. Then we were told to come right away. The waiter actually hung up on me. when we arrived, we were shown unceremoniously to our table. Questions were ignored until it was convenient for him to answer. In all, we were treated as though an annoyance. A young female server who helped out was lovely, as was Chef owner Hudson who visited at the end of the night. A little helpful criticism for the male server, please.
