The menu is limited, but everything is made fresh to order and the service and quality of cooking are superb. While the outdoor seating area is not recommended due to a noisy kitchen extractor overhead, the upstairs dining area and downstairs lounge are wonderful. They are accommodating for large groups and also offer a convenient take-out option.
I have dined at this restaurant several times and have never been let down. I had one of the best steaks I've ever tasted here, and the sharing board of meats is fantastic. The value is excellent, with a great selection of wines. I highly recommend trying this place.
I recently visited Lucius after noticing it while driving past. I was enticed by the Gnocchi on the menu, so after a game of tennis, I went there alone for a delicious meal. I was not disappointed. The restaurant had a quirky yet cozy design (as expected from the Blue Mountain guys) and a friendly bartender/waiter who seated me near the front. I appreciated that the restaurant is welcoming to solo diners. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient. I ordered spicy prawns and saffron risotto, both of which were delicious. The prawns were plump and the risotto was flavorful and well-cooked. Finally, I tried the Buffalo Mozzarella Pizza with extra anchovies and ham. It was fantastic and just what I needed. The pizza was fresh, with good tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, and the anchovies and ham satisfied my carnivorous and pescatarian cravings. I highly recommend trying Lucius, but be prepared to fight for a table because I will be back with my tennis racquet!
Lucius in Gipsy Hill is run by the same team that run the Blue Mountain Cafe at East Dulwich. We always had fantastic food there and Lucius was not a disappointment last Friday when we went for supper. The decor is quirky and lovely without...being contrived, it just seems to have naturally evolved. We didn't make it to the downstairs sofa bar, a good reason to return although none is needed. The Menu is limited (Italian) and everything we ordered was delicious. We had two sharing plates to start between people, one vegetarian and one for carnivores. The flavour and quality of every item on the sharing plates was superb and in the case of the spicy gherkins a surprise. For our mains we had the sea bass, chicken , gnocchi and one other that I have forgotten because the Rioja was so good I was forced to drink an amount to cause amnesia. The Rioja was half the price of a Rioja served at a very close gastropub. We never made it to the afters, another reason to return. Is there anything bad to say? Well not really but I would dearly love it if Goat Curry could find its way onto the menu once in a while maybe an occasional special Then trips to East Dulwich would not be needed.
