I visited this establishment while heading back to Melbourne from a road trip, and had a hankering for fish n chips.
I was a bit put off by its size and that it was a Pokies place. However, it was a warm Saturday and I needed to sit in the cool and have lunch. The air conditioning was working well and the Bistro was nearly empty. The wine list had a good variety and they were at the less expensive end of the range. I selected a beer and the fish of the day (grilled with roast potatoes and vegetables). Both were dearer than my recent experience elsewhere, but neither could be faulted on quality and taste. By the way, there were quite a few, worthwhile vegetarian choices
Went with a group of friends for a Sunday lunch. It was reasonably busy but there was plenty of room and we were not crowded. The bistro style food was quite good and the servings were plentiful. You go to the servery to order, pay and later collect your meal so not much to say about the service. Drinks are purchased from the bar. Overall an average pub that is worth another visit.
Sometimes you just want a pub with cold beer, good service, a tab for a flutter while waiting for your lunch. Lara hotel ticks every box. The bar staff and wait staff are friendly, the food is good pub food. Roast roll with chips was a delicious lunch for $9! Try to get something remotely as good from a truck stop or drive thru. Long time Roadtrip Traveller from W.A. trust me I know a good pub when I see one.
