Balmoral On York - Launceston

When we first checked in we were tired, and a little bit underwhelmed with the look of the place. We've previously stayed at the plusher - but significantly more expensive - Grand Chancellor hotel in Launceston, so maybe we were expecting too much. However, this place soon wins you over with it's easy charm, convenience, and brilliant owners and staff. You really are made to feel welcome, and we didn't find anyone in town who had a bad word to say about it. It's not the most luxurious room you'll have ever set eyes upon, but it's clean, nicely-appointed, functional, and brilliant value-for-money. It's certainly a place that I would use again and I highly recommend it.

After realising it was up the hill on a one way street and taking several attempts to find how to get to it in the hire car, it turned out to be a great choice of a place to stay. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom, the staff were warm and welcoming and exceptionally helpful and though breakfast was limited they tried to do their best to accommodate anyone who didn't want to wander down the main street. The walk back from night time restaurants was just enough of a steep incline to make you feel less guilty about over indulging.

By arriving it looks a bad hotel, was kinda scared but once you're in the room you change your opinion. The bedrooms are nice, clean and new. Nice place to stay.

Very pleased with the very large room that we checked into. Unusual (for a hotel) but good that shower and toilet were in separate rooms. It would have been better if the shower screen was more effective.It was very helpful that we were allowed both early check-in and late check-out during our two night stay. It really helped us with our schedule whilst traveling with an infant.Internet access was free, via simple to join and consistently working WiFi throughout the hotel. This would seem such a simple thing that most travelers value, that unfortunately most hotels don't get right in Australia. Kudos to the Balmoral on York for this, A-plus. As an added bonus, Stan and Netflix are available in room.The included continental breakfast was fine for what we needed. Cooked breakfasts are also available. All in all, the basics are done very well here making it great value for money. On top of this, there are lots of thoughtful extras available, both complimentary and paid. The owners and staff very always cheerful and helpful, thank you, we really enjoyed our stay.

What a gem of a hotel! In the heart of Launceston, Trevor, Sheryn and the team make a fantastic combination to make any stay a great one. The rooms are comfortable, clean and very quiet. A great place to stay in Launceston
