While I've seen some reviews mentioning poor service, I have never encountered that issue myself. It's a family-run establishment, so occasionally the servers may be busy with other tasks, but they are incredibly attentive and friendly once you call them over. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the generous portion sizes—those burritos are massive! They also offer a wide variety of vegetarian options, which is fantastic. One of my personal favorites is the Vegetarian Burrito; it’s so large that it’s perfect for sharing or saving for two meals!
I know what you're thinking... Mexican food in Lethbridge? The chances of it being authentic seemed pretty slim to me too, but El Comal was a delightful surprise. The restaurant is a bit worn and could use some care, but that doesn’t detract from the flavor of the food. I may have bitten off more than I could chew during this visit and ordered the 12 burrito especial. This thing was enormous (check out the photo), and I had my work cut out for me. It was stuffed with rice, refried beans, peppers, chicken, and salsa, then smothered in cheese and burrito sauce. Thirty minutes later, I was staring down the last few bites; I had hit a wall, and there was no way I could finish. I had to throw in the towel for fear of bursting. Ironically, 30 minutes later, I felt like I was about to burst anyway, and that burrito was just a distant memory. Farewell, El Comal, and thank you very much!
I enjoy Mexican cuisine a lot, and while this restaurant may not be the absolute best overall, it definitely stands out as the best in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The decor has a lovely Mexican flair, the service is excellent, and they serve great margaritas.
The interior of El Comal restaurant has a slightly worn appearance, although it still captures the essence of a Mexican establishment. The food is quite tasty, and the bulldog lime drink is outstanding. If you enjoy Mexican cuisine like I do, I recommend giving this place a try.
This Mexican restaurant is quite mediocre. It had a decent start when it first opened, but it seems to have declined since the chef was deported. If you're in the mood for Mexican food, I recommend Tacos Del Mar or Cafe Verde for quick bites, both located on the other side of Mayor McGrath.
