However, upon arrival, we were informed that they had stopped serving roasts two weeks prior, but would be offering them again in October. The current Sunday menu mainly featured burgers and chips, which was not what we had in mind for our meal. I decided to instead have a starter and dessert. The cod goujons with tartare sauce starter was underwhelming, with the sauce lacking flavor but the batter on the goujons being crispy and delicious. For dessert, I ordered the double chocolate cake with ice cream and raspberries. The portion size was much larger than expected, with a four-layer chocolate cake and melt-in-your-mouth chocolate icing. Although the menu labeled the ice cream as vegan, there was no distinct taste to suggest that. My husband ordered the fish and chips, which was a generous portion that he could not finish. Despite the disappointing meal, we plan to return in October for their promised Sunday roasts that we fondly remember.
My boyfriend and I needed a place to stay for one night while visiting family, and I chose The Dorset because of its convenient parking and reasonable prices. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by the low cost of the car park (we only had to pay until Monday morning). The staff were very helpful, showing us to our room and how to access it from the back door. The room was clean and comfortable, with a well-appointed bathroom stocked with plenty of towels and toiletries. The bed was a bit firm, but we still managed to get a good night's sleep. Our room was located above the bar's restrooms, and the loud hand dryer meant we had to turn up the TV volume (although this issue resolved itself when the bar closed for the night). The highlight of our stay was the delicious meal we had in the bar. I had the Southern Fried Chicken Burger and my boyfriend had the Cajun Chicken with fries. We dine out frequently, and this was one of the tastiest meals we've had in a while (the creole-style dusting on the fries was a nice touch). For dessert, we opted for the bread and butter pudding with chocolate filling and blueberries on top, accompanied by a jug of custard each. Everything was served hot, and the portion sizes were generous. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, I highly recommend booking a table for dinner and enjoying a meal at The Dorset.
The food was beautifully presented and the flavors were exceptional. The staff were attentive, although a few seemed dismissive. The local beer was fantastic and the bar was clean and tidy. Tables were promptly cleared and the garden was well-maintained. Definitely worth a visit.
My friend and I stayed at the Dorset for night. We were greeted by the staff who were polite and helpful, they were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend to friends and family to visit or stay there. The rooms...were clean and tidy anything we needed could ask the staff. My friend and I chose food from the menu and it was really good. Went away satisfied and with a full tummy. . Staff are lovely helpful, chatty and friendly, was lovely to stay in a happy place. The staff need to be praised for their hard work and making us feel welcomed and comfortable.
Stayed on a Saturday night and there was a great feel to the pub! Adam and his staff are doing a great job of making the place COVID friendly and the rooms are well decorated and very spacious! Great stay!
