The helpings were just of the right size for us (as pensioners), the food was tasty and served hot. The waitress was really polite, helpful and pleasant. The restaurant is located in a rectangular room well away from the bar areas, not particularly intimate but restful (I think it doubles up as a function room). There is a decent sized free car park at the rear of the pub (access is from a side road, not directly from the main road through Sleaford). Price wise, it was very reasonable. We would happily eat here again.
Called in Wednesday dinner time for a drink. Good beer, well kept and served by a super friendly bar man. He even gave us a sampler glass of a raspberry wheat beer that we commented on to try. It wasn’t particularly to my taste. All in all, I’ll visit again the next time I’m in town.
Lovely lunch served by very friendly staff . Good quality food good atmosphere . We didnt have to wait atall the wine was good and reasonably priced
Popped in on the off chance having received a local recommendation. They kindly agreed to let me have a table around 6.30pm but I had to be finished by 7.30pm because they were fully booked after then. Fair enough. The three waitresses looked very smart in green and were very helpful and friendly. Started with a gin and ginger. I asked for plenty of ice and expected to see the drink to arrive in a large gin glass. It arrived in a tumbler with four ice cubes and the ginger ale mixer could not fit in in one pour. This is basic stuff, but I put down to inexperience. I went for creamy garlic mushrooms followed by their cheese n bacon burger and chips. The mushrooms I could hardly taste the garlic and they were somewhat overpowered by balsamic vinegar, but enjoyable enough, with the crusty bread. The burger I found quite condensed/stodgy but it tasted okay, and the chips were nicely done. I think though what summed up my experience was when I asked for a single glass of red to go with the burger, the glass arrived followed by a mini bottle of Shiraz with cap still on, for me to unscrew and pour! Again, I can only put down to naivety or poor training, but the wine was good, and it did arrive very quickly. To be fair though the whole lot came to £20.50 so if you want to find somewhere which is good value but somewhat rough round the edges this is a good option. At a personal level, though, acknowledging that the heart was definitely in the right place service wise, it lacked the basics and finesse and the food I can really only rate as ‘ok’ so with plenty of competition in Sleaford, I will try elsewhere next time.
We use this place regularly as it is close to home. The staff are friendly and the food is tasty. The Marquis attracts local groups including families. Paul the chef will go out of his way to accommodate special requests. we had our 30th wedding anniversary gathering here and the day was made special by his excellent buffet and friendly staff.
