I was first recommended this restaurant by a friend but I didn't have a chance to go and just forgot, and then a little while later another friend recommended it. So I finally went, and they were both right, the food is beautiful and now I would recommend it to everyone I know. The only regret was not coming here sooner. The eggplant is to die for! So so good. I ask for medium hot with the meals and it is perfect, not too hot and not too mild. Just exactly how I like it. I get regular cravings over the food here...I will have to come here often to get my "fix"! ????
Went here on Wednesday night to have a catch-up session with my friends. Ordered sweet and sour fried fish. The portion is big, was delicious and nicely cooked. It is kinda tricky to eat because it has small bones in between the meat. Also ordered stir fried vegetables with fried tofu. The portion is medium, you can share it between 2-3 adults. The taste was just okay. During Wednesday night, the restaurant was quite empty which makes it cosy. However, the table service is not too quick despite the small number of customer.
Flavour is numbing, punchy and absolutely delicious! Loved the poached fish and mappo tofu which had plenty of Sichuan peppercorns, the bean sprout and fresh cucumber helped balance the flavours. The spare ribs were not great, too salty and abit dry sadly. Lost points for the service, unfortunately they're too busy and don't have the staff to accomodate, took forever to even order- defs recommended, not for those who can't handle spice though!
We've eaten here a couple of times because the food is great. There's a nice selection of Sichuan dishes on the menu and they do these really well - tasty and spicy. The steamed fish is great but it does seem to take longer than any of the other dishes - it always comes out last. It's a family restaurant and noise carries very well there so it's not a place to go if you are looking for a romantic evening.
This restaurant was opened after the success of its mother restaurant (The cube Hot Pot). I have to appreciate the clever trading strategy of the restaurant owner. Its pictorial menu is a common trading method found in restaurants of Mainland China. Set-up is good and I found the dishes are quite authentic Szuchuan style. However, I reckon some of the dishes are too oily and lack of balanced elelments except the heat. That maybe due to my Cantonese taste buds. The main critical issue is the service, which is downhill. I wish the management will keep their eyes on it.
