The Thirsty Moose Cafe - Machias

We witnessed the bartender yelling at new guests simply for asking about the type of wine available. She closed the kitchen early, apparently because she was unhappy with the food quality, and also shut down the bar early out of frustration. Instead of providing good service, she scowled and threatened anyone who voiced a complaint with being banned from the premises. She even kicked out guests who questioned her rudeness and was openly disrespectful to a few customers who tried to call her out on it. To make matters worse, she would loudly complain about the guests to an older woman, who we later discovered was the owner. The locals present were gossiping about how unpleasant she was, sharing stories of her bad behavior during her frequent breaks. Meanwhile, the rest of us were just trying to enjoy a drink. We weren’t causing any trouble; in fact, the elderly woman who was yelled at simply asked a harmless question about the wine while visiting with her husband. This was, without a doubt, the worst bar experience I've ever had, and I’m someone who frequently visits bars.

Every town needs a bar, and Machias is no exception. This establishment fulfills all its intended purposes perfectly.

An absolutely fantastic burger! Not only are the burgers delicious, but they're consistently impressive as well. My only complaint about the Thirsty Moose was the cold vibe I got from my server; I experienced this on both visits with two different servers, so it seems to be a pattern. It's possible that this is more of a local spot and I was just a visitor from the South. Regardless, the burger was great! If you're not a local, you might want to consider getting it to go. Even if the service was a bit off, I would definitely eat here again.

The Ambiance at the Thirsty moose is great! The bartenders make you feel right at home and the food is delicious!

Yep, service is as bad as others report. This place reminds me of a place I never want to remember again. Unfortunately this is a one horse town with a one hitching post watering hole so BYOB.
