I lived in Mackay for a year, and I can confidently say this is the best coffee you can find in the area! They offer a great variety of baked goods, and the staff is consistently friendly and efficient. If you prefer dining outside, there's a lovely outdoor seating area available. The menu features straightforward yet delicious dishes, including some vegan options. I highly recommend the avocado toast!

Why wait until 6:30 for a coffee shop to open when you can just drive there? As I stepped inside, the enticing aroma of freshly ground coffee enveloped me beneath the clear moonlit sky, and I was met with the upbeat sound of Jaxson Gamble playing over the speakers. The staff was friendly—even for 5:30 a.m.—and the service was quick. The decor was intriguingly artistic, and the food was hot and delicious, with energetic music playing at just the right volume. Now, let’s talk about the coffee. Some coffee shops seem to thrive in an Alice-in-Wonderland-like absurdity, where a "normal" cup is labeled as "large," and everyone pretends it makes sense. WAE dances around that absurdity but leans towards the cheerful side. If you order a large cup at WAE, make sure to bring a friend—it's enough caffeine to last you all day, and it’s served in such concentrated form that it might just wake small animals. I never leave coffee behind unless it's truly awful, and this time I had to do just that—not because it was bad, but because I couldn’t finish it, no matter how delicious it was. It’s not like I had a hearty meal beforehand; after all, it was 5:30 a.m. and my body was a blank canvas waiting to be filled with caffeine. While you can’t blame a lumpy mattress for sleeplessness, WAE is absolutely worth getting up early for. I sincerely hope they open a café in Brisbane sometime soon. Well done, team!
