Contribuisci feedbackThis deserves a 2.0. We used the food to advertise and to be honest it was bad. The food wasn't hot. You can tell that it wasn't freshly cooked. It was a bad experience. The ice cream tastes different. The rice also has a different taste. Overall the experience was not good.
For lunch, we decided to go Japanese. Located in Ayala, Makati, Tempura Japanese Grill is really fighting for its brand as it is located in a busy street of Makati with a lot of famous restaurants beside it. I could say that they're doing a fair fight. I love how they cooked Tempura to crisp. Batter was light and airy. Tonkatsu with Cabbage Salad - The breaded pork was fried to golden brown. It was tender and the sauce gave it more flavor. I really enjoy this dish. Yakisoba - Generous amount of vegetables, pork and seafood all in one plate. It was delicious but I just find this dish too oily. Honey Miso Glazed Salmon - The fresh and juicy Salmon with sweetness of honey sauce. This one is a must try. All in all, this place offers good Japanese food but unlike any other Japanese restaurants I've tried, they need to improve just a tiny bit. anjcolumna.wordpress.com
While I was waiting for the doctor's turn at a nearby hospital, my mother and I decided to have a supposedly light snack first. In the end we ate something. I was sick at the time so I wasn't ready to be adventurous with my food so I stuck to the classics. I ordered their kani salad, katsudon, and cucumber and mint shake. The kani salad's dressing tasted very egg-like, which was delicious at first but got too overwhelming by the time I finished. The katsudon, however, was delicious. They serve large portions too so I think the price is worth it. The cucumber and mint shake was meh. For the place, the place was clean and conveniently placed near offices. As for the service, our staff was very friendly and even offered suggestions when I looked like I couldn't decide what to order. Unfortunately, due to the lack of phone memory, I was unable to document everything I ate there.
I ate here about twice in the last month because it's convenient for a friend and me. Before that, however, this chain had never piqued my interest to actually try it out. What I learned is that what you see is what you get - a no-frills Japanese restaurant. In terms of appearance, the cabins, tables and chairs are arranged to completely optimize the space. The AC could be better and I noticed they even have a mobile unit for a corner which is probably warmer than the rest of the place. In terms of service, I have to honestly say this is disappointing. Both times I ate here, the place was a quarter full at most. From the second time on, only our table and one other booth was occupied, but we had to repeatedly ask for utensils or hot tea before we got it. It seemed like none of the staff were keen to provide us with a good end-to-end dining experience. The music was pretty loud too and the staff even more so. Regarding the food, I ordered the following: Gyudon Bento (P295) I had this from my first dinner here. It comes with sides of kani salad and miso soup. The bento itself has two pieces of California Maki, two slices of tamago, gyudon (beef) and rice. Everything was in order. The meat was tasty, buttery and sweet, but the rice was quite mushy, even though it was Japanese grains. The best part was the maki which had a nice fresh crunch. California Maki (P145) I liked it so much the first time that I ordered it there for the second time. An order consists of eight well-portioned maki pieces, and the lovely cool cucumber slices inside gave it a satisfying taste for inexpensive sushi. Salmon Temaki (P99) In short, a temaki is like a giant hand-rolled sushi that is smaller than an onigiri or rice ball. It had three thin slices of salmon along with a bundle of rice and strips of cucumber. The rolling was kind of poorly done, but I managed to eat it without making a big mess. It was generally okay, but for the price I should have ordered another roll of maki. Overall, I give this establishment a 2.5 for the price and quality of their food, but it is also heavily influenced by the very apathetic form of service. I might still come back for a California bun but I'm not particularly keen on trying something different in the future. That may sound a little wild, but my money would be better spent elsewhere.
