Their food was fine, I ordered the ribeye steak (10 oz) medium rare. When it came out it was very thin not a10oz before cooking steak, it was so thin that the was just a touch of being medium rare but the rest was firm and past. I was just going to eat if but waitress offered to get me a new one. Soon the cook came out and reprimanded me in front of other guest telling me I did not know what I was talking about. So here are the facts, I have been an Executive Chef for 50 years, cooked and served hundreds of steaks all hand cut. First issue is that this was not even a ribeye it was a cheap ny strip and I strongly suspect frozen steak I say this because one the look of the first one and the replacement which was 10oz took over 20 minutes to get and was stone cold in the middle. Disciplining a customer is public is a cardinal sin.
We had a wonderful experience at Katerina's in Manassas this week. We took some clients out for lunch, and everything was fantastic! We tried a variety of appetizers, including the dolmades and baked feta. I could eat that feta everyday for the rest of my life! For entrees we tried gyro platters, ribeye, souvlaki, and bifteki. The pita was fresh and warm, and the tzatziki was amazing. I didn't get any photos as I was with clients, but trust me everything is as fantastic as it sounds.
Still excellent quality and service. While I have been ordering for delivery for the last few years, I have not had an opportunity to dine in for quite a while. I took my parents here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. As always, this place is hopping with dine in customers as well as a robust carry out/delivery service. We had the lentil soup, the lamb chops and the gyro platter. The fresh pitas and olive oil are a meal in itself. The lentil soup was outstanding and the lamb chops tender, easy to eat and cooked to perfection and beautifully seasoned. We hadn't even finished our meal when my mother was already figuring out what she was ordering the next time to go back. Service is always excellent and my parents enjoyed the conversation with staff. Accessibility for wheelchairs. The disabled parking space is in the back, so there is a bit of a ride to the front door (I didn't see a rear entrance). It is a narrow turn to get to the front door, you are right next to the street. The ramp is not that steep, but it is uphill if you are pushing someone heavy. It is a narrow area to get in the front area and navigate around people seated at the tables. If you have a transport wheelchair you will be fine, but if you have a fullsize wheelchair it might be a tight squeeze.
I moved to NoVa from Greece this year and Katerina's has been my go-to place when I'm missing home. The Katerina's (pork) gyro is delicious and the closest you'll get to what a gyro tastes like in Greece, the pastitsio and lemon potatoes remind me of my mom's, and the appetizers make me feel like I'm in a taverna in Greece. Everything we've tried has been delicious, and well priced, especially for the portion sizes. If you're looking for Greek in NoVa, this is the place.
