Black Tie Company - Maylands

The ambience of this place leans itself more towards an office crowd than your average city wanderer, but nevertheless the staff are quite attentive and polite even if you meander in with jeans and scruffy sneakers.I initially wanted to try this place out for the coffee, but ended up a tad coerced into getting lunch as well. Was I intimidated by the formality of the place? Perhaps. Did I feel like the staff put in a lot of effort in advertising the lunch? Very much so. I ordered an italian main and a coffee, and while the main was alright the coffee wasn't fantastic. It was quite expensive overall and, suit or not, I didn't feel like I could relax in this place without having my hair done by a professional. This would probably be a good place to take an attorney or a mother-in-law who insists that you dress up every time you see them. Your guest will be impressed with the service but perhaps not so impressed that they'll ask to go again.To be fair, the level of formality is implied in the name...yet I also have found higher quality food for a more reasonable price across the street.

The venue is very pleasant, the decor is very relaxing and the staff and owners are fabulous. Nothing was too much. there was a great choice on menu, including gluten free. Full disabled access food tasted great freshly squeezed juice was great

Went for lunch - don't bother ordering the caesar salad - abysmal. Hard poached egg, was replaced at request for a runny egg (which it should have been). I ended up with an undercooked poached egg with the transluscent egg white not cooked. Come on... it's not hard. Soggy green leaves were swamped with a nasty mayo. This was NOT a caesar salad. To top it all off, this tiny venue was then polluted with the vile eye-watering stench of vinegar and/or cleaning products that caused us to leave earlier than we anticipated. Couldn't breathe in there. Thanks heaps. Won't go back.

I ordered a large takeaway cappuccino this morning. It was the perfect temperature and delivered with a smile.

We wanted a decent brekky to set us up for a long day of touring and Black Tie Co appeared to fit the bill and we were not disappointed at either the quality or quantity. The server was friendly and helpful and the coffee was excellent.
