The 1835 Smokehouse - McGaheysville

This meal certainly met my high expectations. I got the pork bbq plate which came with two sides and i had to choose mac and cheese and hushpuppies. Lots of places to sit and could be a good hangout with the boys if you are trying to chill for a good 30-45 minutes. Relatively cheap if you are looking for a cheaper place to eat. Atmosphere of place is amazing and i would definitely recommend this place to eat sometime on vacation or just stopping by massanutten.

I’m leaving a review here because I used to frequent this place often when it was Log Cabin BBQ. It was a staple of our trips to Massanutten and the food and service was always top knotch. About a year and a half ago we revisited when it changed to 1835 Smokehouse. It had declined from its Log Cabin days but was still ok (had table service and food was decent). Just tried going there for dinner the other day and the place had no service at all. They used to sell pies and jams and this time there was nothing. The menu had also completely been cut and there was maybe one person in the whole place. The place was desolate and depressing. We basically left immediately and a good thing too. Recent reviews of this place appear to show we made the right choice. This place needs to be rescued. It used to be an amazing barbecue spot.

Zero stars. We should’ve left when they had one entree option and 3 side options. Nothing else was available. But we stayed and realized why the place was practically empty. Everyone in our party had something wrong with their order. Taste was OK, portions all over the place, timing was awful, the hot dog we ordered was 3 inches long and I’m pretty sure it was a burnt pork sausage. Someone else dining around the same time as us didn’t even get meat on his bun, just the bun. Very, very weird. The place looks pretty and the food sucks. Go check out the other small businesses next to this place that might not look as new, but at least they know how to make good food. Not 1835, BLECK!
