Pastuso - Melbourne

Visited Pastuso after dining at sister restaurant San Telmo last August. I suspect the Peruvian menu has been tweaked slightly to cater to the Melbourne palate, but apart from the over acidic Peruano ceviche (too much lemon juice for chapped lips!) everything else was excellent. Standouts were the marlin ceviche, beef and fish skewers and the grilled Hapuka fish. Service was polite and helpful.

Hidden at the end of AC/DC Lane Patuso is a Peruvian Restaurant that really captures the atmosphere of Peru. the food is fresh and well prepared and the options for Pisco cocktails and South American beers and wines just make it all the more authentic. We went with the chef's banquet which showcased the food really well and it was a great way to share a meal with friends.

Highly recommend!! The food is amazing, especially the steak and the ceviche - we ordered on our waiter's recommendation and weren't disappointed. Great wine list too. I've only ever been here for dinner, but have never been disappointed and will definitely be back.

Looking for an interesting late lunch (3.30pm) after a movie on a Sunday afternoon .... we decided to explore a Peruvian experience at the end of iconic Melbourne AC/DC Lane. We started with Peruano - ruby red snapper cured in lemon juice with caramelised sweet potato & cancha - a delightful palette cleanser. Followed by Escabeche de Hongos - wild mushroom escabeche, potato foam, migas & salt bush ..... earthy & creamy, Chicharron de pollo - spicy fried chicken, Lima beans, aji Amarillo purée, salsa criolla & Asian celery as well as Salchicha de Huacho - traditional Peruvian house made sausage caramelised onion purée, soft egg & herb panko - most interesting textures & flavours. We both decided we wanted a light finish to an enjoyable experience & we both chose coconut sorbet with coconut crumble & quince compote - not too sweet & delightfully satiating. 2014 Argentina Malbec Mendoza complemented our initial Peruvian experience nicely. Service was friendly & helpful. A most worthwhile experience & will be back to try more next time.

We had a nice dinner in the restaurant. The food was good, maybe a bit overpriced. Everything else like service or drinks were ok. I still recommend it if you are around..
