Shanghai Master Dumpling - Melbourne

I'm a regular to this spot they have the best dumplings I've tried in Melbourne. I always get the pan fried and they are delicious, the staff are friendly. Sometimes there is a wait but so worth it !!

We came here for a quick lunch. The place is packed but we were able to secure a seat. It was my first time and would not be the last time. Cause the food we ordered were just delicious. We tried three different types when we ordered a pork and prawn wonton noodle soup , dumpling noodle soups and handmade steamed Shanghai Xiao Long Bao. It was thoroughly delicious. Price is reasonable.

You may not want to bring your date here but if it is reasonable food without frills that you are looking for, this will fit the bill.The menu focuses around dumplings, noodles and rice dishes, and there is a reasonable range of Shanghai style dumplings and wontons.I have never been disappointed with the food. It is not 5-star but you don't pay 5-star prices either.It does close at 9pm on weekdays so don't go looking for a late night snack there.

Worst dumplings I have had ever and can't understand the popularity. Don't start me on our treatment as we arrived very early to beat the rush, were the only ones there and were given the worst table in the house with extremely low kiddie stools. I explained I had arthritic hips but our pleas that we would be quick were totally ignored by the extremely rude owner/manager. We only stayed as we knew it was popular and had to try it but that was a mistake as the pan fried dumplings were thick skinned, rubbery and quite doughy. It was also cash only which is a red flag for any tax inspector! Needless to say never again!

This is very much an "eating place". Self-serve your tea, bowls, everything. The staff were friendly enough, and the food we got was fair enough. Chicken and prawn xiao long bao - no detectable "soup" inside, and pan fried veggie dumpling - fine.Nothing especially wrong here, but would prefer other places in the city.
