The chicken in the vegetarian dish was a letdown, and the fricasse with overcooked vegetables was very poor. We overheard other diners expressing their disappointment as well, but we were not given a heartfelt apology like they were. After this experience, we are not likely to recommend this restaurant to others.
This is a pleasant little “old fashioned” pub which is part of the Crown Hotel. There is a very nice although small seating area outside where you can enjoy a drink and even a meal out in the fresh and only a stones throw from the Market Square and the Cathedral. We had a few drinks outside but ate inside. There are various areas to eat some quieter than others and all very comfortable. The menu is varied with a good selection of reasonable priced meals and snacks to suit all tastes. The staff were all very pleasant and efficient although sometimes the food service is a little slow. It does get very busy though on markets days. We would definitely recommend it
During our holiday in the Wells area, we met up with some friends and decided to have lunch at this restaurant. We were pleased with the quality of the beer (Butcombe Bitter) and enjoyed sharing two chili beef/nacho platters between the four of us. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, which was perfect on a cold snowy day. The service was polite and prompt. Its convenient location near the cathedral and Bishop's Palace across the street was a plus.
This pub is the perfect spot to socialize or unwind after a busy day. They have multiple TVs showing sports, but they are not overpowering. The menu offers a great variety of ales and wines. Don't forget to check out their Happy Hour specials for excellent deals.
Ate here twice. Fascinating old building. Basic pub food, but hearty and tasty. Good beers and lovely friendly staff and customers.
