We each ordered a different Sangria to start. I ordered white Sangria and my friend ordered pineapple. The Sangrias looked and tasted identical. Very sweet and mango heavy. In addition, they were actually warm, with melting ice cubes. We complained to the waitress, who returned the drinks to an unseen bar area. While we were waiting, we were given fried plantains with a garlic dipping sauce and things were looking up. Then the drinks came back and, again, they tasted identical to each other, although the mango slices had been removed from the pineapple Sangria, but still no pineapple flavor. This time the wine had been strained through ice as the drinks were cooler, but the flavor was so unpleasant I abandoned drinking mine after two sips. The salads, which were supposed to include jicima in a vinegar and oil dressing, were terrible. There was no jicima and the shredded greens, carrots and peppers had been washed but clearly not dried. I wish I had taken a picture of the salads. Mine had about 1/2 of green water sitting in the bottom of the bow, very unappetizing. We pointed out this issue to the waitress, but were not offered replacement salads. We each ordered a different small plate. My friend ordered the shrimp, pineapple and beef skewers which came with no pineapple. The waitress first said they were out of pineapple, then went into the kitchen and came back with what looked liked fried, canned pineapple chunks on a plate. I ordered the Colombian tamales, a dish I am very familiar with. The hard boiled egg yolk in the filling was so hard it was like eating marbles. The tamale flavor was bland and paste-like. The bill for lunch and drinks came to $47! What a costly lesson on where not to eat. There are a lot of good Latin American restaurants in Milwaukee. This is not one of them.
One of my favorite restaurants ever! Authentic food that tastes absolutely delicious. I especially enjoy the machitos and yuca with bacon. If you like Latin food, I would highly recommend checking this place out!
