Reminiscent (to me , at least) of Bolivian saltenas, these are hearty pastries stuffed with a piping hot stew of meat, carrots, onions, potatoes, cumin, pepper. The dough is slightly sweet (it’s made with apple)… it’s simultaneously soft, chewy, and crisp… baked to perfection
As a Brit, this is my new favourite place in Dinkytown. Jon and Pete are so so lovely and talked to us for hours, and the food was incredible. They also have a great selection of British food to buy Cadbury's, biscuits, etc. I'm a vegetarian, and their pasty was so good, and my friends who are meat eaters said the traditional pasty and the sausage roll taste authentic to the UK. Cannot wait to return
I 'm from Penzance, Cornwall. I travel the world with bands. This was a dream come true although I thought initially that there were closed down as there was building work being done in the front premesis sorry about the 'perm closed review, I can 't see it now to take it off!! . THe owners are awesome. They know all about the pasty. I gotta say the pasty was one of the best Cornish 'traditional ' pasties that I 've had outside of Cornwall. AZ, MA, CA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Mexico... etc etc . They 've done good. They 've listened. There 's also a drop of apple jam at the end. Like they should have. 100% would come back again. 100% WILL come back again. I only ate 3 today... :
Delicious pasties. Fantastic crust that is smooth and doesn’t crumble when held. The traditional steak has chunks of tender beef not the typical ground meat, which sets them well above typical pasties. The chips (steak fries) look hearty and good, I didn’t have them personally. The end of the pasty comes with apple pie filling, a superb touch. They do make some without if that’s not to your taste. The seating area of about 10 tables is clean and simple with cribbage boards, playing cards, and other board games. Staff is really friendly and helpful. One of the best pasties I’ve ever had.
I am from England, lived there 26 years, and these pasties are so authentic I could be back home. The pastry isn't too dry (an issue with a lot of pasty places back home) and the filling is generous, for $6 the value for money is fantastic. Historically a cornish pasty has apple in one corner for pudding and that is something I love about this place, there is apple pie in every pasty. I cannot recommend this place enough!! The owners are also incredibly friendly and love British culture, truly authentic British food!
