I visited this quaint Swiss restaurant located right next to Mitchelton station and was delighted by its charm and delicious food. I had dined here once before a few years ago.
I have a weakness for cheese, so when I heard about the fondue at Des Alpes, I knew I had to try it. And I was not disappointed!
A quaint little establishment with interesting décor. Read all the reviews and decided to do dinner on Saturday. The evening had its ups and downs which were all taken in good spirits. Firstly we made a reservation and this was confirmed by the owner with a phone call. We arrived on time and were shown to our table. Within ten minutes after we were all seated and enjoying drinks another party arrived and we were told we had been given their table and would we mind moving. We agreed, but all our unfinished drinks disappeared. The meals were then ordered and were delivered to our tables, and in each case the plates were so hot they could not be touched. My wife and I received each others meal and they were so hot we both got burns from the plates trying to exchange them, as the waitress had disappeared before we noticed. On all four meals 50% of the plate was Potato Rosti (grated potato) with the main course beside it in fairly small portions. The meal was tasty, but were not served with any greens, except if ordered extra as a side dish. Just too much starch for this price of meal. My dessert was an apple pancake, which was tasty and reasonably sized, but with too much cream and too little ice cream. We all followed the meal with coffees or hot chocolates, but they were all served at a low temperature. (Quaffing not sipping). I have noticed that most of the reviews are for morning or lunches so these may be their speciality, but dinner was not quite up to expectations or value for the experience.
Went after the Mitchelton Parkrun. Coffee was so good that we ended up staying for another. Staff were very friendly and relaxed.
