I've been here a couple of times now with friends and we've loved it every time. The food is so delicious and they have vegetarian options as well. I recommend for starters the wings and edamame with plum salt! You can't go wrong! We always order plates to share as it's the perfect way to enjoy everything but if you just want a main grab yourself the bipambop! Then help yourself to an adorable size ice cream
Nice to sit at the bar and see the cooking in action. We arrived at 1.30pm on Sunday and it was packed and there was a queue. The inside is small and there's no reservations. Parking is along the street and very limited. Directly opposite red rooster. There is a parking lot at the back in a laneway.Service a little slow as they cook everything to order. Staff a little flustered and under attentive but managed to be polite. No wifi. Visa pay wave accepted.Flat white was great. Long black OK. Fried chicken tebasaki soy sauce good but a little over the top with the sauce. Was a little underwhelmed with the spicy Korean chicken. Onokomiyaki good but a little over the top with the mayo.
I love Cafe Carpenter! Have been here a few times and the each experience was great. The interior is so homely, comfortable and well decorated. The staff were amazing and very friendly too! The presentation and flavours of the food were impeccable. I tried their matcha latte which was one of the best I've had so far. Although a little thin, the matcha flavour was strong, and had just the right level of sweetness for my enjoyment. Their okonomiyaki is easily the nicest I've had in Melbourne. The batter is light, crispy and not overly oily. It also contained an abundance of pork and vegetables, slathered generously with okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise. Yet, the balance of flavours were just right and not overpowering. Definitely recommend this! Their salad udon was very yummy too. The udon texture was nice and chewy and the vegetables were fresh. Their tamago kake gohan (Japanese breakfast) was very wholesome and enjoyable. The rice was mixed with quinoa to my pleasant surprise, and tasted great with miso soup, pickles and egg. Although a very simple meal, it was delicious. I also recommend their brownie parfait. This is a true indulgence only for $9! There's brownies, ice cream, pocky sticks, cereal, blueberries and the lot. Really decadent. Although it may be hard to find seats during peak times and the food takes a while to be served, it's definitely worth the time. Will keep returning!
We found this cute little hole-in-the-wall when we went to a map store just up the road. Funky decor, groovy music & a great extensive menu offering breakfast until 2pm. The dishes are Korean/Japanese & the menu makes choice accessible if you are not too familiar with the cuisine. 2 lovely guys were running the cafe 1 cook & 1 running the house so the food did take a while to come out but the atmosphere was great so my partner & I could indulge in long conversations as we were not in a rush to get anywhere. The food was fresh & flavoursome, Spicy Chicken (True!) & classic Korean Pancake were generous enough to share & we were satisfied but not stuffed. We will absolutely make the trip down there again & take friends.
