My initial thought to the Alvah stone was that he was a bit out of the way, fucked into a corner of a small, wooded city; a decent journey for many people. my first actual impression was very good; the beautiful landscape and the adjacent waterfall, bookshop and caffe made for a very picturesque location. I had heard great things about eating colleagues and stipene cooks, so my expectations were high when I arrived. when we went to the actual restaurant, our group of seven was greeted by a host and sat near the windows facing the waterfall. it was dark outside and the lighting in the restaurant was dim, but I can only imagine that look outside the window during the day. Impressive first meal in a restaurant I have plans to revise although it is over an hour away. alvah stone is part of a converted mill complex that also includes a bookstore, a music shop and another restaurant. the ground has rustic charm, but the primo spot is the alvah stone terrace with views of the river. but I was here for the burger, not for the landscape, so let's do this. it is $18 at dinner (with one side included), $13 at lunch (pages a la carte). the listed components are English muffin, onion marble, mayo, ccheddar, iceberg sauce and pickles. English muffin always causes treachery, as it is a fine line between excessively raw tasting and excessively crooked. here it is homemade...read more
Everything in order about the book mill and more. the alvah stone is part farm table, partly picturesque and all american nouveau. two meals here, once on Sunday night and another one for an early lunch in the middle of the week and I had both impressed. great service and rotating menus, fresh beer on hahn, a dining room like amherst coffee meet a dosis of lofty white linen; a strange analogy, but the light that is let in by big witwen with a view of a waterfall is an unusual thing in the valley. from the cod to smoked chicken, small teller such as quinoa salad and carburized spargel and eggs that make themselves a meal that lives alvah stone to the size of the lady killigrew share their home.
We repeat the visitors in alvah as it opened. alvah is pretty crazy. it's so dangful. the sections are small that caught us first, but the ones.
