When he asked how our food was I explained the burger wasn’t nice (I had less than a 1/4 of it) and the chips were not 3 times cooked as they were solid in the middle. He just stood and stared at me and I had to ask him to take my plate away. No apology was made and I wasn’t asked if I wanted anything else. I do now wish I’d taken a photo of the meal now. We did get a pic of my friends ‘mash’ which would have been placed as wall filler. When the bill came I asked Tim (lovely waiter) why the burger was on the bill. He said he’d remove it. 2 minutes later the angry Duty Manager returned to tell me I’d ‘only’ complained about the chips and had ate half the burger so it wasn’t being removed, which just wasn’t true. He begrudgingly said the 10% service charge had been removed. The other 3 in my party weren’t all that happy with theirs, but didn’t think it worth complaining due to his attitude. It was only Tim that apologised for the poor meal. Definitely wouldn’t return, which is a shame as they could make this into something lovely for visitors.
The Causeway Hotel was a lovely place for two weary travelers. My husband and I landed in Dublin (flight from Boston) at 7:45am, rented a car and headed north. After settling in to our room and exploring the Causeway, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Causeway Hotel. We had an early breakfast there too (with great vegan options) which allowed us to walk down to the Causeway well before tour busses and crowds arrived. The carpark at the Causeway is open from 9am-5pm, so by staying at the hotel, you can walk to the Causeway at off times when it’s not so busy. I would recommend not paying the extra for a sea view as it is very far away, and your main view is the hotel parking lot.
This place has gone downhill so badly. I remember the hotel before it was franchised out by The National Trust I was there for dinner with 3 friends. Menu looked fine Very little local produce--apart from fish and Coleraine Cheddar Service poor--run by children bar 1 senior member of staff. Food quality poor--Garlic cheesy bread at nearly £9--awful. Mushroom in cheesy sauce--very few mushrooms. Chicken was tasty Asked for ice 3 times Asked for butter twice-it had not arrived with the salmon roulade It needs a more local flavour--Irish Champ !! Pie with Stout Steak with a Bushmills Sauce--A few examples
We had a lovely meal here after going to the giants causeway, the staff are so friendly especially the young lad who served us , he made everyone feel so welcome
We have just returned from a family weekend at this hotel and honestly could not fault it! The location is perfect and a great base point for visiting so many other places. It is easy to access and has a very large carpark which means there is never an issue. It is right on the doorstep of The Giants Causeway and being a resident at the hotel gives you free access to the Giants Causeway Visitor Centre which is also great. The rooms were very spacious and are cleaned daily with a large selection of towels in each room and a great array of toiletries. The facilities are great and we were in both the bar and restaurant and the food was amazing. However what really makes this hotel is the staff they can not do enough for you from the front of house staff to the restaurant staff all of which work long hours but always had a smile on their face. Will honestly be back and my in laws stayed with us and have said the same (and they are very hard to please!
