The restaurant was charming and the owner was sweet. My husband has a gluten and dairy allergy and we are pretty experienced in the gluten free world. I hate to leave a bad review but the gluten free items were the worst I’ve ever had. Extremely bitter. We took a pastry to go as well as most of our food and it had to be thrown away
As a vegan with many gluten-sensitive friends, this place has changed the game! I moved from Nampa to Boise 5 years ago, and Local First is the only reason I’ve found to come back. I had the veggie sandwich with the mushroom soup, and I had to double-check that it was indeed vegan because it was THAT good. My friend got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, and she was in love with the gluten free bread. I even took some desserts to-go to make the bliss last longer. If you live in Nampa (especially if you have any dietary restrictions) you need to go to this place!
Chose this spot because of the gluten free options, which were plentiful on the online menu. Upon arriving, we learned that the menu was limited due to COVID-19 and some ingredients for the menu options were not available. A little disappointed but we went with a chicken pesto pizza. We were not disappointed. It was very tasty and came out quickly. The decor of the restaurant was very cute. I really hope this place weathers the current storm because gluten free restaurants are far and few. They also offered vegan, nut free and dairy free options.
Unfortunately, there were issues with cleanliness—our tablecloths had remnants of previous meals, and the tables beneath were just as dirty. While I can overlook minor details like this if the food is outstanding, there were other concerns as well. The tables were extremely wobbly, making for a stressful dining experience; it felt like the bolts holding them together were loose. We also experienced issues with the water served at the table—it had no ice and had a musty smell, suggesting that they likely don’t use filtered water but rather the city tap water. As for the menu, we ordered several items, including Bloody Marys, pizza, a cinnamon roll/French toast dish, biscuits and gravy, and quiche. I was surprised at how limited the menu was, but I understand that this might be a blessing for those with serious gluten sensitivities. That said, the portion sizes were disappointingly small, akin to quarter-sized TV dinner portions, with no sides, all priced around $11-12 each. The biscuits had an unexpected sweetness, while the gravy was excessively salty. Unfortunately, the quiche was unappealing due to the vegan egg substitute used, and the vegan cheese on the pizza was just not good. In the end, our lunch cost around $80, which felt unjustified based on the experience we had, and I don’t think we’ll be returning. On a positive note, the gluten-free baked goods from GF Galaxy, available at Albertson’s, are fantastic. I strongly recommend that the restaurant consider focusing solely on high-quality baked goods for those who truly appreciate them.
