We used to come to Quarterway every Saturday for karaoke and for dinner. We stopped coming about a year and a half ago, because, as regulars, the waitress (we always seemed to get the same one), would ignore us. We would get our first drinks and order food at the bar since she never came by. She would stop frequently, scan our table, yet walk on whenever we tried to order. When it got to the point that she even stopped picking up empties, we stopped coming. My daughter and her friends decided they wanted to do karaoke tonight so we decided to give Quarterway a shot. We figured with renovations having happened, maybe there would be changes. Karaoke, as always was fun. but the service, if anything, was worse. One of our party had special dietary considerations and asked about gluten free options. The response from the waitress was "No, but if you know what gluten free is, there are plenty of things you can order" and pointed out nachos and burgers and suggested to take off the bun. The problem with this is that we don't know what is used for filling and binding so it was an inappropriate comment that was also said in a condescending manner. We discussed whether or not to remain, and decided to give it a shot anyway. With four of us at the table, this waitress (who I'm pretty sure was the same waitress to give us poor service when we used to come, though I'm not 100% positive) would come by and ask one of us if there was something she could get us but completely ignore the other three. We were there for nearly an hour before two of us were finally able to order drinks and food. The food, which was pretty simple fare that we finally were able to order, took over an hour to arrive. Food quality was inconsistent. My steak sandwich was actually really good: cooked the way I wanted and hot, but some of the other meals were not good. The hot dog was cold and greasy. The side of gravy ordered with it was super tiny for what we paid, and as a side in both meals, we asked for an upgrade to onion rings. They were well cooked, but we each got 8 rings for $2 charge. Definitely not worth it. After that, it was the same problem that caused us to stop coming on a regular basis. Constantly being ignored, or not asking all people at the table what they want before taking off, forgetting orders, then not bringing the bill in a reasonable amount of time, and then, in spite of asking how the bill was to be split up, messing that up anyway. At no time was there ever an apology. I really don't know what the problem is. I've worked in similar establishments and have easily been able to keep up when it was MUCH busier. The final straw was to find that the staff, while not keeping up with the service, were also taking their turns singing. I'm sorry, but they are there to work and if it's too busy to serve your customers, it's too busy for you to sing. It's very rare that I don't tip at all, but today was that day. In a year and a half, things haven't improved, and, in fact in many ways became worse. After realizing that our table did not give her a tip, the waitress got quite nasty. I don't think she comprehended that a tip meant to be a gratuity for GOOD service, and she certainly hadn't shown us much of that. We don't go out a whole lot, and when we do, we expect to be treated with respect and to be offered excellent customer service. It's been far too long since I've experienced either of those at the Quarterway, at least from the staff. It's highly unlikely we will return. We've had better service at other places in Nanaimo that also host karaoke.
Droped in for lunch met some old friends.the friday steak sandwich is a good deal. i added prawns and ceasar salad all for under $20
It is wing night Wednesday and Sunday, my husband and I try to go one of those days. The wings are the best we've had in Nanaimo. Great servers, nice comfortable environment. Great place to go, always busy, that tells you something. 40 cents a wing but well worth it.
The service was great, the waitress as cute as a button, and the food was great! All done in speedy fashion.
