The lobster was slightly undercooked and did not have the sweet taste that I have experienced with fresh raw lobster sashimi. I believe lobster is best served with minimal sauces and spices, as they can overpower the natural flavor of the seafood. The nori in the Scallop Handroll was also soggy, which is a big no-no in sushi preparation. The sea tang should have been crispy and fresh. Overall, I was not impressed with the dishes I tried. The presentation of the unagi don was good, but the mushroom was too sweet for my taste. The Tamago on the side was not the traditional type I prefer. I would rate this restaurant 3 stars. For dessert, I had the sesame ice cream with fried pancakes, which was acceptable despite not being labeled as tempura on the menu. Although I may sound critical, I appreciate the creativity in the dishes offered at this restaurant. It is a unique find in Nanaimo, and I would consider returning in the future, but improvements are needed in certain areas.
The service at this restaurant is top-notch and the food is excellent. The lunch portions are generous enough to feed a small family, and the sushi is incredibly fresh and tasty. Highly recommended.
That was the most amazing restaurant. Beautiful service, friendly staff the chefs said thank you as we left. The table and the food was incredible! Would highly recommend this restaurant.
My friends and I decided to stop at this restaurant on our way to the cabin. We placed our order over the phone but were accidentally disconnected three times. Despite being hungry and hearing good things about this place, we called back to finally place our order. We were told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes, but when we arrived after 20 minutes, we were informed it would take an additional 30 minutes. This was not what we were originally told! After waiting for another 30 minutes, our order was finally ready. I paid, but had to wait an additional 30 minutes to actually receive the food. It took a total of one hour and twenty minutes from our initial call to get our food. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The gyoza was cold and rubbery, and the sushi rolls were lukewarm and did not taste fresh. We only took a few bites before deciding to throw everything away out of fear of getting sick. I recommend going to McDonald's instead - it's cheaper, fresher, and you won't have to worry about getting sick. Additionally, every employee we encountered at the pick-up window seemed overwhelmed.
The tropical salad was great and quite large for a starter. The rolls were beautiful, innovative and tasty. We have eaten sushi in many large cities with high rated sushi restaurants and this can stand among the better ones. Very glad we made it here.
