Savour Sichuan - New York

The menu offers a wide selection of standard Chinese and Szechuan dishes. The food is consistently good, though not outstanding.

We have visited Savour Sichuan about six times now, and we're planning to return to try everything on the menu. Last week, I took a friend there for her birthday, but the food was only average, rating around a solid B-. The Dan noodles were quite bland and lacked flavor, and they were also very dry. The shumai was rubbery, and the pork dish was surprisingly tasteless for a Sichuan restaurant. On a positive note, the eggplant in garlic sauce was enjoyable. The tables are very close together, and the noise level can be quite high. I'm hoping our experience was just a one-off and that our next visit will be better.

If they like authentic, spicy Schezuan dishes, that is. the person she checked us when booking. my calls to the manager to correct this problem went unanswered.

Authentic, tasty cuisine. I would happily return. The waitress was worried I woudn't enjoy the preserved egg (I'd never had one) but it was delicious and I'm glad I was up for an adventure.

Our first ordered appetizer was so sweet that we could feel the grit of the undissolved sugar between our teeth. The main courses we ordered were supposed to be spicy. We were the non-Asian dining party in the restaurant during our visit, and perhaps they thought our palate was different, but the dishes we ordered came out without even a hint of spice. Finally, my water glass was filled with WARM water, hot enough to fog my glass. I think they must have picked up the pitcher they use for washing table by mistake, but didn't notice and didn't care. It was difficult to get the staff's attention, in general. I think this might be a great Chinese restaurant for Chinese speakers, but we won't be back.
