The sushi is incredibly authentic, featuring very fresh fish, and the seasonings used on some of the nigiri are divine; they beautifully enhance the flavor of the fish and remind me of home. The chef, an older Japanese gentleman, isn't very talkative, but you can tell he is a true craftsman dedicated to his work. Plus, it's BYOB, and there's a liquor store right next door.
During my solo trip to NYC, I decided to make the trek from the Upper West Side to the Upper East Side for this charming little sushi bar. The dining style is omakase, and it was truly a remarkable experience. When I arrived, I was greeted by my name on a list and then seated at the bar for one of only three nightly seatings (be sure to make a reservation in advance). I had the opportunity to meet and interact with some fascinating and unique individuals, which made the experience even more special. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, encouraging me to try sushi options that I normally wouldn’t have considered, and I’m so glad I did. This place is perfect for solo travelers or a romantic date night. If I could give it more than five stars, I absolutely would!
This sushi bar may be small, but the quality is exceptional! Once everything is finished, you can order additional items, and the Blackthroat was outstanding. Don't forget to bring a bottle of wine or sake, as the BYOB option is a lovely touch.
Excellent value for lunch. Sushi was excellent. The only issue was the chef was a bit surly and was not able to communicate clearly what he was serving.
Delicious sushi in a no frills atmosphere. Service was very good. A bit pricey but well worth the experience given the quality. We opted for the chef guided selection coursed one at a time, then added a few more pieces at the end. Some pieces are traditional and others are very creative, but the fish shines here, not overwhelming sauces, as you may see at some other sushi places. This place is BYOB. Would definitely return.
