Unfortunately it’s now been taken over by the kind of selfish parents who think it’s their front room and that everyone should make allowances for their badly behaved kids. Couldn’t even stay for lunch at 2pm on a Friday as it was like a crèche. Shame, as I shall miss the place and it’s not the (excellent) staff’s fault.
No booking for a recent Sunday but despite being busy we were found a table. Meal took a while to arrive but we cannot fault the welcome service. The beer was not to my taste but that’s life. Our roast beef and the belly of pork were very nice, decent portions, very tasty. Dog friendly which is nice. Could do with a water bowl and a few treats to add to the experience. We will return, thank you.
Handily situated just outside the station, this venerable old barn of a pub has been fashionably modernised in a pleasingly minimalist way, and wouldn't look out of place in far more trendier locations than this unlikely east end outpost. Barely anybody in when we called in one weekday lunchtime. Certainly plenty of room in the large front bar and even more so at the rear which seemed more geared up for events or multi-dining. We were here for a spot of lunch, and the abbreviated but interesting menu certainly had appeal. We played it rather safe with the classic cheese and bacon burger but were not disappointed. Faultless burger and tasty relish plus ample more-ish fries were just the job. We were lubricating with a few pints of the house bitter, and I have to say that it was kept perfectly and at a temperature that was very refreshing on such a hot day. There were only two staff on duty and both were friendly and efficient whilst managing the few punters with ease. Long way from home for me, but I'd be happy to call it my local if I lived in the vicinity
The Tav is my chosen local as the staff are absolutely lovely, great service, fantastic cheap coffee and the fish chips is bliss. It's also a great place to meet and chat which I do with a bunch of ladies several times a week. Brilliant! :
This is a really nice, dog friendly pub. We visited after our walk with the dog. Ordered Eggs Royal (poached eggs, salmon, hollandaise) and the wife a veggie omlette. Even though there were only 6 or 7 couples here, the food took pretty close to an hour to arrive. Only eggs !!! Everything else is on point and the **** Mary went down excellently. Speed up please..
