At least a bib gourmand, maybe not worth a Michelin star but I've seen stars being awarded in London for much else. The menu' is solid, with a good range of appetisers extremely good. Had the stuffed sardines (good balanced between fried and the delicacy of the fish), ratatouille (ok), the terrine maison (good), ravioli nicoise (excellent, a lot of sauce but it doesn't make the dish feeling "too heavy") and tasted the beef fillet that my friend took (a big chunk but surprisingly melting in the mouth: very good!). You can find fancier places but Davia has a laid back atmosphere, an attentive service and every dish in the menu seems well presented (in a traditional way) and well executed...a family restaurant worth a small detour.
This is a tiny but popular restaurant for which booking is usually required. We had no booking but were told to arrive after 21.15 hrs on Sunday 26 March 2017, when the main sitting for dinner would be over. We duly did so, having enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the friendly Grimaldi Hotel, next door. Several other people also came at that time for a brief meal and the restaurant was obviously appreciated and supported by the local community. My partner had a starter of Terrine at 8 euros which he said was excellent. He had a beef daube to follow which was also excellent. I had ordered a sirloin steak with a cream, mushroom and Cognac sauce but the dish that arrived was a veal scallopine with the same sauce. I agreed to eat this although the waiter did offer to re-order the correct dish. My food was fine. Our main courses cost 16 euros each. The problem was the wine. We had ordered a Beaujolais Villages wine, La Ferme du Rolland 2014, Les Vignes De P'tit Jean. It was only after the waiter had opened it and offered it to me to taste that I commented that the wine was very cloudy, in fact, opaque. He replied that it was special wine and the cloudiness made it special. He was passing this wine off as normal in its cloudiness and although it did not taste terrible, one could certainly detect the Gamey grape from the taste, but it was not pleasant to drink, my best description for it would be a crude farmyard wine, which, when we got back to our hotel and googled it, was indeed what it was. We left more than half the bottle behind and at 32 euros a bottle the only special thing about it was the exorbitant price. That waiter conned us over that wine, we won't be revisiting this establishment.
Very unique taste with their salads. Great house wine, and the main course tastes absolutely deliciousv with the sauces having been cooked for hours and hours. Great service too with very friendly waiters. Instant (and rare) favorite.
If you want something special, try this sweet, little family restaurant. Everything was homemade and taste was good. But the best thing was the atmosphere and so friendly service. Feel like you are the family's quest.
As others have mentioned here, this restaurant simply exudes the feel of a small family restaurant with personal attention and good food. The food itself is good - not amazing - but good, and when combined with the feel and vibe of the place, I left smiling and very pleased.
