So I was really full from eating at so many other food kiosks at Hole in the Wall and needed something sweet but light to finish off a good day of eating. When it comes to dessert, there really are only 3 places to choose from in this venue. I 've had Green Cheese before, so I decided to try my luck with Tiny Duchess. I went over to the small kiosk to see what they had to offer. I was given a list of their best sellers. Of course, double chocolate was what really caught my attention (even before asking about their top sellers). She tells me each piece is P120. In my head I go: What? P120 for one piece? Ano yun ginto? Lo and behold, my Double Chocolate eclair did have a gold fleck in it! An actual tiny piece of really thin edible gold. The eclair wasn 't all that surprising. It a pastry made with choux dough filled with creamy chocolate ganache and topped with dark chocolate icing. I love the combination of the sweet filling and the bitter icing. The pastry was nice and chewy.
The eclairs were too dry, it made me want to cry just to moisten it! The flavours weren 't well incorporated either. Honestly a big meh for me. Worth skipping. And the PRICE!!! 124pesos for a single piece... Nope. Thank you, I 'll take my money elsewhere.
Aside from their sweet savory eclairs, one could get a cream puff version of those sweeties. They also have some bonbons to boot. To pair their sweet treats, they offer coffee or tea which would go nicely with those. We tried their cream puff version of their eclairs. We mostly got their sweet ones for take away. Our choices were (starting from the bottom right going to the upper right) Green Apple, Blueberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Lovela Lemon Meringue. I liked how each piece was carefully crafted that biting one would seem like a sin. I mean, just look at it! In terms of flavor, all were good but I liked the blueberry one the most. I liked how flaky the pastry was, and how generous they were in the filling in every puff. Priced at P190 for that box of four, that was one sweet deal.
I'm not so big on sweets, that's why I don't get to appreciate eclairs if they are stuffed with sweet creams and fillings. When I discovered Tiny Duchess in Hole in the Wall, I was delighted to find out that they have savory eclairs aside from the sweet offerings that they have on display. Tiny Duchess has wide selection of sweet and savory eclairs with really offbeat and adventurous combinations and pairings. For instance, they have on their sweet selection flavors such as double chocolate, chocolate and green tea, green apple, creme brulee, meringue and blue berry cheesecake. I have tried the chocolate and green tea one, which was actually pretty good because it wasn't too sweet and it had just the right amount of matcha, which can taste quite vegetative or grass y when overdone. While I'm a bit lukewarm with their sweet eclair menu, I have nothing but praises for the savory ones. I loooove the Fusion of Four Cheese one. The goat cheese one is also quite delightful, but my ultimate favorite would have to be the Fresh and Smoked Salmon with Wasabi, which is a very interesting combination of flavors and textures. The wasabi wasn't too overpowering ,and the smoked salmon in spicy mayo was the right kind of spicy, to complement the wasabi. I was so impressed with the execution of this flavor pairing that I had to order several of the big ones just to enjoy it. I keep coming back for more of this whenever I am in the area. Though it could be a little cheaper at least, I am very happy with Tiny Duchess. It is one of my favorite stalls in Hole in the Wall.
