I went in with low expectations, as I usually do with neighborhood pubs, but I was pleasantly surprised! The family side was bustling with activity, while the pub side was much quieter. We were warmly welcomed and allowed to sit wherever we liked. Our server promptly brought us menus and took our drink orders. While she fetched our drinks, we browsed the menu and opted for the classic house breakfast. I was impressed by how quickly the food arrived, especially considering how busy the restaurant was. The meal was hot and exactly what I ordered. While it wasn't anything fancy, it was a simple breakfast that met my expectations—no complaints here!
I visited this restaurant for dinner with a few friends. At 5 PM, the place was about half full, and there was plenty of parking available in the shared strip mall lot. I ordered the Beef Dip, which I would rate a 6 out of 10. It was quite dry, and I had to pay extra for cheese; the au jus was rather bland. However, I did enjoy the side salad, which was simple but tasty. Friend 1 ordered the Reuben and loved it—the bun was soft, there was a generous amount of meat, and the sauces were great. He also tried the beef barley soup and found it to have a very homemade quality, which he liked. Friend 2 had the Whiskey Jack Burger and thought it was decent. She ordered sweet potato fries, which were really good—I'd give them a 9 out of 10—though they could have used a bit more salt.
I visited for breakfast recently and ordered the eggs Benedict with soft poached eggs. Unfortunately, the eggs were medium instead of soft. I tried to get the server's attention early on, but she was preoccupied chatting with her friends and coworkers. The hollandaise sauce was more like a runny, semi-creamy broth than a proper sauce. The hash browns were extra crispy, but without the ketchup, they would have been quite bland. I showed up looking casual and a bit tired since I had been prepping all night for contractors in my condo, so maybe the server thought I wouldn't tip well. I still ended up leaving a $5 tip on a $24 bill because that’s just how I am. Overall, I would suggest avoiding this place for breakfast; it wasn’t very impressive.
This was my first visit to this café. I was pleasently surprised. Service was immediate and friendly. The coffee came quickly as did our orders. My guest and I both had the standard breakfast which, I believe, is available all day. She said we can have hash browns or a bowl of fruit. It was nice to have the option because I'm tired of hash browns. The breakfast was definitely better than average, with 21 grain bread (excellent) the fruit and berries, etc. The coffee was your standard restaurant coffee, not better but not worse, it was okay. The café was really busy at around 11.30am but there were also lot of staff and they seemed happy. The WiFi is password protected so ask the server for a password however if they are always this busy I don't think that this is the kind of place that you bring your laptop and work for a couple of hours. I recommend you try Muggn'z out, especially if you're in the west end. There is a separate lounge for the evening.
Have walked by this place a bunch on my way into the Shoppers, but hadn't been in before now. I'm new to the west side, so I'm trying all sorts of places I hadn't been to before. I decided to take a Sunday to relax with breakfast out before a visit to the farmers market. Since Muggn'z (what is with that ridiculous name? I might have gone in before now if it weren't for that) is right next door, I decided to support local. It took quite a while for me to be acknowledged, and a while longer to even see a menu. But once I was, everything went smoothly. I ordered the Greek omelette and coffee. The omelette was good feta, black olives and herbs, but it was a bit salty. I think it's a Greek seasoning that they use that contains salt. With black olives, you usually don't need much salt. The potatoes were nice and hot and crispy outside and soft inside. And the rye toast was...rye toast. The coffee was on the meh side. But as far as breakfasts go, I've had far worse. The price wasn't bad, and the service was good (once it happened).
