Contribuisci feedback4 of us went for lunch while visiting the area. One can only describe it as a shed and the toilets could be cleaner. It was like something off Fawlty towers. The service was slow and the waiter would have given Manuel a run for his money. Everything had to be repeated when ordering. No lemonade behind the bar which I found odd. The food was OK but certainly not cheap. We have had much better meals for the money. We wouldn't go again.
Found this little local restaurant by chance while we were searching for a place to eat in Nolay. The appearance of this place is definitely not attractive to high-end food seekers, but I am always keen to have local dishes, especially from family run places. The owner is a very friendly old man, the menu is surprisingly in both French and English, the price is also very reasonable for the dishes they offer. We both chose duck since I consider its a small size meat I can easily finishe. Friend also ordered quiche as starter. Until the moment I saw my dish arriving, I almost cried for help--it's a huge piece of duck! I wondered where they bought the meat from, it's not possible to get such enormous piece for just €16.5, with baked potato in cream sauce. I tried my best to finish 4/5 and I had to give up at the end. The meat is fresh and tender, and skin is crispy. I really wished I was hungry enough to eat it up. The only downside is due to summer season there are some flies around the table, but it happens everywhere in the restaurants. And the toilet could be better decorated/maintained~ Surely will come back for another surprising dish! :)
Asking a local about what restaurant to go to, brought us to Chez MoMo. The food is simple and so is the restaurant but locals visit it for a drink and chat frequently and the atmosphere is really relaxed. And with every course it's a suprise which member of the family will serve you. Good food for a decent price!
You have to be aware that, in Burgundy, there are a lot of family restaurants. The staff is not necessarily trained for waitressing or service in general. However, I find that Chez Momo provides an excellent countryside-ish ambiance, the food is good, there is a nice selection of wine and the staff is very respectful.
