I had breakfast here while visiting the area, and it was not as tasty as I had expected. The oats seemed to be instant, but the sourdough toast was good, as was the coffee. I suspect the cream was past its expiration date, which might be common in parts of Alaska outside of the Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Juneau areas.
This was our first stop during our visit to Nome. Finding the restaurant was quite an adventure; it looked closed at first, though we later realized that many places in Nome have a similar appearance. Once we stepped inside, the atmosphere was somewhat unremarkable, but the views were fantastic. I love hole-in-the-wall eateries, so I can overlook dated décor. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. Our server seemed inexperienced and not particularly friendly; she couldn't answer our questions about the menu initially. However, she did make an effort to find the answers and return to us, although her overall attitude suggested she would rather be elsewhere and that we were interrupting her day. On a positive note, the food was a pleasant surprise! We were very satisfied with our choices, especially if you enjoy classic, comforting dishes. The cook deserves some recognition. If they could tidy up the place a bit and hire more personable staff, they'd have a solid four-star establishment!
Absolutely dreadful. While the staff tried their best, it couldn't make up for the poor quality of the food. The bacon seemed fake; it had a rubbery texture. After my second visit to Nome, I brought my own breakfast bars because there's no way I'm returning to this place. I truly hope they make significant improvements soon because Nome deserves better dining options.
Upon entering, I found the interior to be quite simple and cozy, typical of a rural Alaskan eatery. The tables and chairs were mismatched, and the walls featured random paintings of flowers and landscapes. A server greeted me and told me I could sit wherever I liked, and I chose a table by the windows overlooking the Bering Sea. It was a cloudy and overcast day, so the view wasn’t exactly picturesque, but it was still nice to gaze out at the sea. Another server stopped by with the menu. I perused the options but knew I wanted breakfast. I settled on two scrambled eggs with reindeer sausage (my favorite!). I had a choice of hash browns or home fries/country potatoes (I went with home fries) and also selected light rye toast. The food arrived fairly quickly, and I thought it was really delicious—maybe I was just really hungry! The scrambled eggs were a bit bland, but I could easily fix that with the salt and pepper on the table. The sausage was quite flavorful, but the standout was undoubtedly the home fries. They were incredible—crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. I polished off everything on my plate (the toast was good, too). The service was excellent; the server was incredibly friendly, and we chatted for a bit. Overall, the food was tasty, the service was great, and the view added to the experience. I would definitely return if I ever make it back to Nome!
