It is clear that much care is taken over the maintenance of the grounds, with all lawn and shrubbery looking manicured and pristine. There are plenty of areas to sit along your walk, so as to admire the loveliness of the surroundings. There are also a couple of cafe's areas of play for the little ones. The house is definitely worth a visit, with everything kept insitu since the death of the last owner, in the early 2000's. Not all rooms can be entered, but everything can be seen. If you're lucky (as we were) a staff member will be playing the piano in the entrance hall, and the sound will follow you as you experience the wonders that await. Enjoy.
Wow. This house is amazing. Probably the best I've visited yet. A must visit
OUr second visit to this wonderful place, and we were not doisappointed. Previooulsy many rooms were closed due to the Covid restrictions, this time no such issues. If you are near Bristol or just passing by, this is a must visit. the Gothic inspired architecture is stunning, the gardens are superb, and the attached church, which is accessed through the house, is breathtaking. This was a house owned by a VERY wealthy family. The volunteers are really helpful and knowledgeable and indeed are very proud to help out here.
Nice place, the grounds are extensive but like most NT properties they're so dark inside it's hard to actually take anything in. Obviously for painting conservation, but still be nice if they could work out a way to light them a bit. The chapel is nice though, and went on a good guided tree walk which was interesting. Cafes ok but pretty manic generally. Enjoyable day out either way.
Great place for walking and lovely gardens and glass houses
