This place had *great food* and *excellent service* but on the flipside, the Catfish Opelousas , in all it 's glory, was underwhelming for the $24 you pay for it. Another reviewer made the same observation about the tons of non de-veined shrimp they lay over one, yes one fillet of *mushy* baked catfish, that 's advertised as *grilled* . The Po Boys are the real treat, which is massive, served on buttered french bread. It 's a shame for such a historic fine dine in restaurant the casual food orders are better than the expensive specialty entrées. I definitely recommend this establishment
Went there for the first time in 40+ yrs to celebrate my elderly mother 's birthday. Have great memories as a child of our family going there when I lived in Central La. Was looking forward to a nostalgic revisiting. I got a gumbo appetizer. My mom got gumbo. It was good. Not the best I ever had, but gumbo is subjective. I got stuffed redfish and quite frankly it was awful. Topping/stuffing was good but fish was not fresh at all and that 's an understatement. Grilled vegetables it was served with tasted like microwaved frozen vegees. Greeter/host and server were young people with a surly attitude that forgot to take my brother 's order and looked like they didn 't want to be there. And lastly, restaurant wasn 't crowded, but it took forever for orders to come. My trip down memory lane was a disappointment.
Very good family run restaurant since 1937. Old school in a very good way. They have very good crawfish bisque and the chicken and sausage gumbo is authentic and made with hens. Still family run and great food and service.
Terrible place. We ordered the fried alligator. We get our salads before the appetizer. When the appetizer came it was seemed like it was over fried and cooked in older oil. Over an hour later we still did not have our Entrées. When we asked the manager, she was very rude. And stated that they have VIP club members that get served first. This was the second attempt to eat there on a Father’s Day. As last year we were turned away. So don’t waste your money or your time going here. They don’t even deserve a 1 star.
