But apart from a few dishes it was all downhill. The biggest disappointment was the fact we (Dutch) were treated differently than the Spanish diners. Our main course should have come in a skillet (like the Spanish got) but instead arrived on a normal Ikea white plate without any thrills. Our bread basket was very basic whereas the Spaniards two tables down got the usual array of bread including bread sticks. I'm no sucker for bread but applying different service for different natives is discriminating. Also, for some reason our starters were followed within 2 minutes by our main course. The same happened to a party of 4 (English) a table besides us. It's quite annoying that you are in the process of digesting Sepia al la plancha (which was the best dish) when you main course is put in front of you. The price vs quality equation was also off balance. The salad and sepia were nice but the rest was mediocre at best. Drinks are overpriced (3,50 for a glass of house white is expensive for the area). Charging 2 euros for 5 small pieces of bread same. All in all a very mediocre experience.
Had a lovely day with our friends and family, the location was a first visit for us and we were impressed with the premises and staff. Our food was delicious especially the paella. We laughed away the afternoon in this delightful restraurant. Recommended
Outdoor eating is one of life’s big pleasures, and a visit to the delightful terrace restaurant at Veracruz in Dehesa de Campoamor never fails to please us with its consistently superb service and delicious freshly prepared, home-cooked food. It is a friendly, family-run restaurant and whenever we are on holiday in Dehesa de Campoamor, we make sure that we visit several times. It would be difficult to recommend any one particular dish as the menu is extensive and everything is excellent and freshly cooked. However, we always enjoy the juicy dates stuffed with almonds and wrapped in smoked bacon, the grilled boquerones – which are quite simply superb, the skewers of tender pork and herbs, and the huevos rotos are to die for and the BEST that we have ever had in Spain. Huevos rotos is a Spanish family favourite and whilst its English description on the menu is “ham, egg and chips”, we would have to elaborate on this and tell you that you will receive a delicious hot skillet of crispy potatoes with mouth-watering Spanish ham topped with 2 perfectly cooked fried eggs. To ensure a table here at busy times (weekends and August), we would recommend that you dine between 6 and 9pm because after 9pm things get very busy because the restaurant is extremely popular with local Spanish residents and holiday makers – who dine a little later than the British, but if you leave it too late at the weekends it may be impossible to find a table which would be very disappointing. It’s not the easiest place to find, but if you reach the Montepiedra Hotel – just carry on a little further up the hill and you will see the terrace of Veracruz on your left. It really is a hidden gem and worthy of its 5 star reviews on here.
