El Portalon - Orihuela

A hidden gem which you think is a large house nestled around the back of La Fuente shopping centre. The SATNAV took us to the shopping centre following the directions via Trip Advisor. But you need to cut and paste into a map provider otherwise you won’t find it as it’s up a winding road past the Golf Course. When we walked in we were astonished at how nice the grounds are and the layout of the restaurant set out on a large terrace. There is also a large dinning room for colder weather. The staff are all Spanish, but you can get by in Spanenglish if your Spanish is not up to scratch. The food was excellent and very tasty, full of flavour and piping hot, especially the plates! It’s a small menu with unusual dishes including Wild Boar Ragout. If you want paella you need to request the day before. It’s a bit more expensive than your normal restaurants around the area and would be ideal for a special occasion. It’s not suitable for young children. I didn’t see anything that would be suitable for a young child to eat. At the end of our meal the chef came out to ask if we enjoyed our meal, which was a nice touch to the evening. Would highly recommend.

I booked this as it was my husbands birthday so wanted something a bit special. Well it certainly didn’t disappoint. Beautiful setting, the courtyard has a central fountain with the sound of running water I find is very comforting. The meal itself was outstanding, pure quality. We’ve passed this place for years, we definitely will not pass it again without booking. Excellent service

The restaurant is situated on a small but busy road which unfortunately doesn’t have a footpath so getting there from Las Ramblas was not the easiest walk but so worth it! There is a courtyard with a fountain and we sat on the lovely terrace in the walled garden. There is an extensive menu and we were spoilt for choice. The food and drink are all reasonably priced. We were a party of 4 and all our food was amazing and beautifully presented. Service was attentive, not overbearing and the chef came to greet everyone at the end of the evening. It was the best meal we have had in the area and would highly recommended a visit.

Sin duda uno de los mejores restaurantes de la zona con un servicio de habitaciones inmejorable y una cocina exquisita. ¡Si vas, volverás!

Excelente comida, gran cosa, un sitio 100% que repetiremos seguro. Hemos estado encantados con todo.
