My room was beautiful and clean, the restaurant makes delicious food, and the hostel is extremely easy to travel to and from via boat. Probably my favorite hostel in experience
Family style meal with a great energetic vibe and very friendly staff. Call them ahead to reserve a space and enjoy the Saturday night costume shindig
I have no complaints about this hostel. The breakfast and lunch menu was reasonably priced. I stayed in the rooftop private room and it was so gorgeous. Staff and volunteers were really helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
I am honestly extremely disappointed with my experience at la iguana perdida… although the staff were pretty friendly, my 5 day stay at the hostel was really unpleasant. to start off, my room is the private 2 person bedroom with shared bathroom, located right above the common area. the room itself is so humid, dark, very tiny, dusty and dirty. but if you open the windows to let some air in, be prepared to sleep with lots of bugs and wake up with horrible bites (if you do fall asleep)… the location of my room within the hostel is also very bad, because you can literally hear everything that goes on in the common area and the people will sing, yell and laugh very loudly until as late as 2:00 to 3:00 in the morning. so when you have to wake up early for a shuttle or an activity, it is very annoying having to put up with the amount of noise. even noise cancelling earphones can’t cut it. we decided to join the hostel for family dinner for 70q/person on our first night here… the food was mediocre at best… oh and my boyfriend got very sick from their food, his fever still has not gone away today (5 days later). so please don’t eat here and instead take a tuktuk to go to the cafe sabor cruceño located up the hill. it is cheaper and the food is actually good. wifi here is terrible. it doesn’t work 95% of the time, even in the common area. finally, the bathrooms. although they are close to my room, they are pretty much always occupied and you would have to walk to the back of the hostel (like 50m away) to use the other bathrooms. they are also very dirty, full of bugs and the showers here are always very cold! frankly, i really wish to have experienced lake atitlan with a better hostel/airbnb because la iguana just completely ruined it for us.
