When we were finally seated, we were at a set of couches which would have been more suitable for a larger party rather than just the two of us. The appetizer was a challenge to eat comfortably as we had to squish to one side of the couches. The music playing did not match the expected atmosphere of a nice sushi restaurant, as it had more of a nightclub vibe. The waitresses turned our table area into a busy pathway, carrying dirty dishes and cups through our space without consideration for our dining experience. One waitress even caused someone else's residual water to spill on our table without apologizing or cleaning it up. This experience left us feeling rushed and uncomfortable. Additionally, my partner had requested for the staff to sing happy birthday to me, but this did not occur. Overall, we were not satisfied with our dining experience and will not be returning to this restaurant in the future.
This place is amazing! Kona was our bartender and she's fantastic at making cocktails. The service is great and the staff is very friendly. The sushi is excellent and the ambiance and crowd are nice. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Be sure to make reservations if you want to sit outside.
Based on a friend's recommendation, I decided to try out Shakou for sushi in Park Ridge. The restaurant is quite spacious and has a slightly non-traditional Japanese style, but I enjoyed sitting by the windows. We started off with the stuffed jalapeno appetizer, which was beautifully presented and tasted crispy, rich, and delicious. For our main course, we tried some of their signature maki rolls with the help of our server. While the rolls were okay, they weren't anything special compared to other places I've been to in the area. Overall, I don't feel the need to return to Shakou, as I prefer Blufish.
I like decor here even though it is weird that Japanese restaurant sharing one space with sport bar, so they decided to sacrificed authenticity and to provide Americanized experience I am not a fan of it. Food didn?t impress me. Rolls wereaverage I definitely expected more. But I am going to give another try to this place.
Fresh food that makes the sushi yummy. Atmosphere is great for dates or night out with friends. Music has a good beat. Drinks are on the sweet side so order your own cocktail unless you like drinking jolly ranchers.
