The ribs were under-cooked by a long shot, the main course selection limited and not terribly interesting. On the date we dined, the draft beer was out of order and there was no bacon which features on the menu. We did have a plate for 2-4 people of a wide selection of smoked fish, meat and cheese that was a tasty appetizer. but other than battered fish and chips there was no seafood served as a main.
We arrived for an early dinner and it looked as if a large lunch crowd has just left - AND just in time for a wait staff shift change. This is an outdoor restaurant on the shore of Georgian Bay. The decor in the restaurant and the bar area is very nicely finished but is already starting to look a little tired. I suspect that they need a professional housekeeping/cleaning staff! Our waitress confessed immediately that she was very new - she had just started. So - some questions needed some research BUT she was very friendly and polite and got us any answers we needed! The food was a little spotty but good. Maybe not quite good enough for the price but still good. We had a Beer battered Pickerel and Chicken wings with salad. The Chicken and the salad was Excellent and the fish was just OK. Not bad but nothing to write home about either! The unique thing here is the Large Screen TV - and I mean LARGE SCREEN TV - is actually floating on a raft right in front of the Restaurant! What a great draw for sport events. You have to see this - at least once. All in all - a good start. We'll give them a try again next year!
The GBL Patio is a delightful spot in Parry Sound. The bar/lounge area is well-designed for its location, with plenty of waterfront tables at different levels. There's a large floating screen that doesn't obstruct the view, and the staff, while a bit quirky, are competent. The local brew (Norse) and other drinks are great, and the music selection is good (no rap or anything like that). And then there's the food - our dry aged burgers with delicious cheese, smoky bacon, and fresh toppings were fantastic. We couldn't finish our meal at the restaurant and ended up taking the rest home. We'll definitely return for a Pimm's and the pickerel. Just a heads up - the parking lot is quite a distance from the restaurant and there are stairs to navigate. Boat access is easy, but those with mobility issues may have some difficulty.
We love waterside dining. There's something about all of the coming and goings of people that make it much more interesting. It's especially fantastic when we can couple that experience with great food and cold beer. Glenn Burney hits the mark on all counts!Great upbeat atmosphere and fantastic menu choices make dining at this location as interesting as it gets. Although the service can be a little slow when things get busy, who cares because you can sit back and enjoy the views.Make sure you try any of their smoked dishes because they spend a lot of time working the onsite smokehouse. If you order a burger, get the one with the cheese and bacon. I'm not a huge fan of the smoked wings but that could just be me because I like my wings crispy.
Absolute favourite restaurant in the Parry Sound, Georgian Bay Area! You can choose to eat in the restaurant over looking the Georgian Bay or outside on the dock or around a bonfire. Your choice! Best meal at a restaurant in years.
