Mama's Japanese Kitchen

Was vacationing in the area and ran across this restaurant tugged in a new strip mall on the side of the Sunshine Coast Hwy. What a find!Friendly staff and mama was attentive to our needs. The decor is very modern and a Japanese authentic restaurant feel where you serve your own water, utensils, etc. Overall a very Japanese feel as they are all native Japanese people.Food was amazing given the fact that it is literally in the heart of a very small town of Madeira Park. Everything was freshly made and nothing really disappointed - very comparable to good sushi restaurants in the Vancouver area.Udon was the Japanese style - a bit chewy, yakisoba was sweet and sour like it should be, sauces and marinates were all very tasty. If there is anything to improve, but it really isn't their fault, would be the sashimi. They are good but not as good as the ones you would find in the Vancouver area. But again, given the location, it is actually excellent.

This restaurant is owned by Japanese and the staff are friendly. There's varieties of food selection too choose from. However, the portion of the chicken teriyaki box we ordered was very small and the flavour was mediocre. Spirit roll was good!

We were visiting Pender Harbour and getting hungry. We stopped in and tested out this place. There were plenty of people and a few tables outside on the deck and one inside. We sat down to read the menu and soon there was a line up at the counter to place orders. The server was also the one taking orders so it took a few minutes for the Green Tea and Miso soup to arrive. It was also a bit longer to be served our food because many people had ordered take-out which kept the server quite busy. The food was very good tasting and presented perfectly. We enjoyed the special Sushi roll dedicated to Canada 150. We really liked the the vegetable combo meal. The Kale Gommae was awesome. We will be back whenever we travel this way. The prices are better than the others in our area.

Our family with three kids had a terrific early dinner here and it was great! Every bit as good or better than pricey places elsewhere, everything we had was very tasty and fresh. Teriyaki chicken, various sushi rolls and tempura, among other things, were all very good. Highly recommend to fellow travellers!

We have stopped in here a few times on our drive to or from the ferry. It's right off highway and the food is so delicious! Last week we did "to go" and it was just as yummy! They currently have a $40 sushi platter special for the summer that has a very generous amount - must call ahead at least 24 hrs for this.
