Searching for something extraordinary in Plymouth and yet classic? This is the place. It 's very unassuming, clean, open, and family friendly! To start with they have an A M A Z I N G ! ! ! wood burning oven for the heart of their kitchen. This alone sets the tone and taste of their cuisine and the ambiance that surrounds it. The owner (Andrew crew) then sets the bar for culinary excellence doing the rest with amazing fresh ingredients , and in-housed products. The Classic Pizza: Pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, Mike 's Hot Honey. The flavors texture that amalgamated after eating a slice of this, gave my wife an euphoric tantalizing taste bud high sending chills down her spine. She 's only ever once had that before (with Thai food). Now she 's been trying to reproduce this high (chasing it like a fanatic at different restaurants w sweet, savory, spicy foods) only with fail (and disappointment) every where else we go. The pizzas in general start with a canvas of a well slow fermented dough that is high heat wood burning oven cooked for a crust that has a S P E C T A C U L A R pizza char and lepoarding, delivering that desired bubbling, and smokey crisp with a hint of fermentation flavoring that you want in a slice of pizza. You can use a fork and knife if u want, but that 's much like describing this meal to a blind man and letting him smell it instead of put it in his mouth. No! instead, grab, fold, and hold a slice with your hands to eat and you 'll get that earthy organic feel of oneness to your food. Caprese Sandwich w/grilled chicken: Fresh Mozzarella, Marinated Tomatoes, Basil Aioli, Greens, Balsamic Reduction, Grilled Red Onion on a Telera Roll. The oven does for the flavor and char of this chicken sandwich what a Thermador does for a steak (only better), makes me wish that they did this sandwich with some sort of
So, I should admit that I fall victim to a strong recency bias. All too often, I would call my last meal my best. I try to keep it in check for these reviews. That said I just had the best lunch ever at The Artisan Pig. The chicken popper sandwich I had was super messy, but was perfect. Tasty, crispy fried chicken sandwich full of all kinds of yummy things. Kids shared a huge wood fired cheese pizza. Sauce and dough tasted fresh made for an awesome pie. Wife had the sweet sausage roll. She said the sausage was as good as any she has ever had, and was happy she got the sweet instead of hot because it had some hot peppers and mustard on it. Finished the meal with croissant bread pudding (a weekly special). Really friendly service, and a very cool spot. I suspect we'll make it a point to come here every time we come to Plymouth.
Great atmosphere, with one of the best pizzas we ever had. Jill was friendly, alert to our needs but not intrusive and very knowledgeable about the craft beers. Looking forward to our next visit!!
August 2022: Stopped by for lunch and tried the chicken pesto pizza and the special sausage sandwich. The sausage was a Korean style sausage that was superb! Fries ???? were cooked with nice crunch ????. Pizza was great. The crust was really good but I could have left the lemon aioli out. Was a bit on the sour side. Would definitely come back again for more delicious sausage and would try a different pizza next time!
The main reason for three stars is the price. The pizza was very good but very small for around $20. I?ve had a margarita pizza and another option off the menu and liked the taste but left hungry both times. The toppings were spread thin too. The selection of beer was good. I like the interior of the restaurant, it?s kinda unique. Just wish it was a little less pricey especially when there are so many other good options around for the price.
