Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie

Unexpected. Just amazing. A very nice young man makes good coffee and (my wife says) extremely good hot chocolate. An excellent madeleine (I'm sure if I dipped it in jasmine tea it would have reminded me of something) was soft and moist and my wife had a tiny hazelnut tart that had wafer thin shortcrust pastry, filled with hazelnut mousse with a layer of nutella (oh, all right gianduja) and a wisp of chocolate and a hazelnut piece on top. Delicious and refined. A large coffee, a small hot chocolate, two cakes, a Bickfords Cola and a Gingerbread (our son was with us) and it cost around $16 which is ridiculously cheap for this sort of thing. Honestly, Port Adelaide can be a bit desolate but this place is a little gem.

The pastries here are delicious and the coffe is good. An old established bakery with modern flavours and tasty food. The pies are wholesome and the pastries are very good. You can sit either inside or outside to enjoy the food. A good place to have lunch or morning tea.

Great attentive, friendly and helpful service.Fresh and tasty in-house baked produce. The Cornish Pastie was a real delightful surprise as was tbe baked custard tart. The baker is gifted.Coffee was full flavoured, rich but not bitter.Well worth the stop and relaxed snack as you dine in or as a take-away.

This is a great cafe to have some really yummy french style pastries, made with care and taste really good along with a good selection to choose from. The coffee good as well. The staff made me feel welcome and added to the experience. Not open Sundays , worth dropping in if you are in the area.

After reading about this re-invented old bakery in Port Adelaide and being lovers of history and French desserts we made a special trip for lunch. We had a pie each and bought 3 desserts to take home for later. I chose the steak & mushroom pie & enjoyed the pie pastry case, light and not thick, my filling had big chunks of meat but not the promised mushrooms(only 1 found) and too much pepper for my liking. My friend's pepper pie was perfect. Our take home desserts were delicious especially the lemon tart. Disappointed there was only 1 photo of the old port on the wall.
