There are a lot of places claiming to do fish and chips just like they do in Britain but here is a place that has nailed it!! Their fish is perfect, right amount of batter na the portions are huge (haddock). The chips are like...chip wagon fries, perfect too!! The owner actually came by our table and asked if we had enough, offered more fries and free gravy if we wanted. My go to place now! I think he has a couple of other locations in St Catharines too! Come to Niagara Falls please!!!
We were cycling in Port Colborne on a Saturday late in the day, and Main Street West had rolled the sidewalks up, except for this place! Afraid it was only a hole in the wall, we poked our heads in and were surprised to see a small but decent dining area. We were also surprised that the reasonable prices included some better side dishes, such as sweet potatoes. After checking with our companions, we ventured inside and had quite a decent meal. There were a lot of people there - a beautiful autumn day and not many alternatives on the street - so service was pretty slow. (They were filling take-out orders at the same time.) But when our food came, it was more than satisfactory. We had ordered the Lake Erie perch platter plus an additional piece of cod, and that order filled the two of us. The total cost for the platter - the cod, the sweet potato fries plus two servings of coleslaw - was under $19 after tax! We were impressed. There is another Union Jack near the St. Catharines Hospital, and I made a mental note of it, given the very good quality and reasonable prices here.
Simply one of the best fish and chips I've had. The dining room is very plain and could use some refurbishing, but there's always take out. Enjoy!
You will get great VALUE for you $$$ -- Union Jack beats the competition hands down on QUALITY and VALUE
